have seen several expensive "well bred" gsd's turn up where i train to be worked, dog after dog the decoy tries play with a rag, ball, bit of suspicion....and dog after dog clearly has no more instincts and drives for the work than a stuffed cat. no the dog's fault they are what they are, the owners become so crushed when it becomes obvious that what they purchased the dog for will never happen. the decoy is more of a counselor and will never harm a dog to try force into something that appears like work, he just won't no matter how much money some will offer.

who knows what will become of such dogs when they get home.

i always feel guilty cos they hang around and look at my dog trying to dig a hole thru my vehicle to get at the decoy (no shit, he tries to dig thru the steel floor in a fury). the dog comes out fully straining on the harness and the folks with their timid dogs are just like FAAAARRK, they are scared and confused at what they are seeing as they never thought a dog could get to that level of violence.

just seeing more and more of these lovely natured dogs that have absolutely zero suitability for the work.

self evident i would have thought??

here is a hint - the breed is almost lost and my dog is freakin machine monster chainsaw on a leash love or hate on command supreme being that you have neither seen the likes of or could handle.

good day to you.

Your idea of a solid gsd is a chainsaw trying to dig out of a metal box? A dog like that would not be capable of having the temperment for herding, service dog and or police work.... just a crazy schutzhund sleeve biting dog... not a gsd of high standard and the gsd is a UTILITY dog and people that only do "sport" with them forget that is only a drop in the bucket for what the dog is supposed to be able to accomplish and be. I am glad the gsds used for search and rescue and other important jobs have not been reduced to sport dog that can only think of sleeves.

newbie you seem so innocent, my freakin gSd is first and foremost a farm dog, much S in this gsd haha, secondly he is a paid working dog at events, you are so far wrong that it is cute. tip for ya, there is nothing of value to learn about dogs on the internet so don't waste yr time trying, been there already. fun place to banter with dog folks tho so keep that in mind.

the utility dog argument is promoted by breeders that have never produced a dog good at anything and used as an excuse to unsuspecting newbs, thats two tips free for ya.

Look at the join date under that newb name :) some things are not what always they seem.

I am not a breeder. My gsd is show line yet he is my service dog 24/7. He also is schutzhund dog. He watches over the areas children and keeps them busy and out of trouble also guiding them to and from the bus stop garding them. This dog, well bred, does anything asked of him.

Utility gsd! solid temperment, intelligent, great structure, excellent health. He is one of two currently in my home of excellent quality. I am not saying all from the best lines are great. I have seen some Va lined dogs I would not own. I am saying not all are terrible.

It means I may have the name of newbie, but I have been junior handler, kennel worker and groomer since age 12. In adult life again working dogs and also search and rescue with k9 partners for ten years...... I have been in show lines and working towards my current knowledge in that new area since this name was created in 2004. Newbie was meant as newbie to this forum, not newbie to what a dog is and how to work one.

by vk4gsd on 17 August 2013 - 00:08

i get that now, shall we move on?
