You really need to get control of your pack, there are quite a few women who can help you with that. You need to ask first though. It is a very tough step for a know it all man type.

Sorry just coming back to this.  My original post was not to encourage anyone to use more quadrants than they want to, I'm just saying that if you use "positive only" training then say you are a "positive only" trainer, not truly using "operant conditioning".  That's like saying you "do IPO" but have only ever done obedience.  When you train multiple phases simultaneously and likewise actually use all four quadrants, it does change the overall picture and application.

Most times I think when people say they are doing "operant conditioning" they are really talking about "marker training" using the +R and maybe a little -P quadrants.

Operant conditioning is not high level stuff.  I'm pretty sure I learned about it in 101 Psych (or whatever one we were required to take, liberal arts yadda yadda) before I was into training dogs.  I did not take psych in high school but if I had I'm sure it would have been covered then too.  Hard to have any overview of psychology (human or dog) without touching on operant conditioning.

I'm not one of those Bart Bellon groupie fans, but yes, he really *gets* operant conditioning and has a training style I could label "operant conditioning".  I primarily train using marker training and freeshaping (both use mostly +R) but I do use the other quadrants and Bellon's "NePoPo" concept for a few behaviors.

Some of these threads make me smile, The words some of you Guys use we never here the words spoken at all ever, All we do is train the dog or Pup none of the fancy phazes are ever said, it is you give it a treat when it does well or you praise when it does well nothing else. Dogs respond to your voice in most cases,Yet people on here like to make it sound harder or more techincal than it is? Training a Pup to adult hood is no rocket science in fact it is a simple thing to do and do it well, Over here they are among the best Dog Handlers in the World and that does not just apply to IPO but you never here any of the words used by some on here

Yes it is that simple in my mind.....  Repetition and positive reinforcement to learn a given task works...   Food reward can be taken away at a given moment once you know the dog has the task down....  and for my dog "Has never done that before"....- even with negative reinforcement - there is still the person saying the same "My dog has never done that"....  But the dog train with positive reinforcement is happy at doing his job........
