Thanks for sharing that Lady. It was on the Today show this morning only they are only reporting I think it was 280 deaths. I told my honey this morning, who is fairly new to dogs that we don't buy anything from China or Mexico. Myself I only give the dogs hooves, Bil Jac biscuits and their regular kibble and veggies.
When you walk in TS where they have the bins of stuff on sale? Well my mentor's mom bought a couple of those smoked pork femur bones. Please folks stay away from them--they do splinter--anyway we lost my girl's mom to one of those. Yes it pierced her intestines and she had to be put down because there was no way of fixing them. She was a nice young bitch too and I really liked her. I just wanted to add this as a warning to please be careful what treats you give your puppers--just cause it says good for dogs doesn't always mean that.

Look, any GARBAGE that used to be sent to the landfill is now GOOD for dogs: pig noses, pig ears, cow noses, bull penises, (suprized they aren't selling cow utters,, wait maybe they are?) any way, it's disgusting that in the US, garbage, that has been processed, is deemed good for dogs.
BTW, the FDA has been dragging it's feet on the China dog jerky garbage since 2007. China isn't going to let some US agency tell them what they can sell to dumb US consumers....just use your brains and stop giving your dogs garbage that is processed for dogs to eat instead of being sent to the land fill.

and now our wonderful gov't gave the green light for human food to be grown here, but processed in china and shipped back to be sold here for human consumption.  Buying local is becoming more and more important.

Better to grow your own food.
China has all the power and calls all the shots in running this country....They own us.

Joan I won't argue about some of the processing used before bringing dog
'treats' & 'chews' to market - but correct me if I'm wrong, in previous times
when we were all 'self-sufficient' and raised our own foods, was there not a
saying about everything on a pig being useful / eaten ?.  Do some cultures
not still cook and eat trotters, for instance ?  There is too much "chuck it in
the trash and clog up the planet with landfill" in our present day society IMO,
so why not use bits of animals (snouts, pizzles, etc) ?

by joanro on 23 October 2013 - 15:10

Would you eat that stuff after it has been processed, HM? besides, biodegradable, unedible parts of animals are not "clogging up" the planet. But feeding garbage, contaminated with MRSA staph and ecoli, plus many other contaminants, is not what I would consider efficient use of animal "byproducts". Grind the garbage up and put it in human breakfast foods if you must, but I'll pass on feeding garbage to my dogs.

I've never understood why people buy jerky treats anyway.  Why not just use real jerky?

by joanro on 23 October 2013 - 15:10

One could just feed the stuff non- processed? Go to the processing plant and pull the cow or pig head out of the pile of flies and maggots BEFORE the processors pick it out to cut the ears, noses off and before they dig the bull penises (that's what they are BTW, not 'pizzles' ) out of the gut pile, and feed it to your dogs raw (washing the maggots off before feeding would be optional).

Joan, you have the power not to buy whatever China is selling. China "owns" us, is hyperbole. The Chinese culture regarding food does include eating every part imaginable. Such delicacies! I have heard many stories of the "delectables" served to their guests of honor, from seasoned travelers and business people, and to refuse a taste is quite an insult. Never eat the rice either, at the end of the meal. It means you aren't full and they did not satisfy your hunger. Burping is a compliment, BTW.

Keith, excuse me, but I do seem to remember you receiving some freeze dried chicken type treats for one of your pups, can't remember which pup, but, when you complained to a certain company about the cost that was mismarked... they sent you some free, and you said your dog loved them!

The only freeze dried food/supplements I buy is the tripe, and it come from Evangers....
