To me, these are long coated pups, my boy doesn't have anything near this much hair. these have hairy ears, betoven doesn't, never has.

This is Betoven at around same age as above pups, I don't see same coat.
Betoven at 4 months old, about same age as pictures above. I don't see the similarity.

i say he is a plush coat, he is not either short hair or long hair , but in the middle

@trixx- I think you are right. I've just sent off his DNA for coat length to know for sure. I'd call him a plush too, he'll be 7 months old next week and still doesn't have any of the tufts of long hair in/around his ears, or on back of his front legs. I'm curious to see what is listed on his pink SV papers, I'm waiting on them to come from his breeders. I wonder what the SV and Germany thinks it is? Will post answers to these questions soon!

Well it is unlikely to say 'plush' on German papers.

Unless the Germans have started breeding for the lucrative
US export market to the extent they will compromise on
their traditional view of what is a 'correct' coat, and are willing
to actually name what they are now doing ?

Normally a questionable pup is called stock coat in the pedigrees, this may be changed later on.

CMills

Oh I know it won't say plush, and I'm fairly sure it will read as "stock" since when he was exported at 4 months old his hair was completely short, as seen in his pic above.  I'm more curious what his DNA results come back as. That will be the all-telling answer. Genetically  I would consider a plush coat to merely be a stock coat dog that carries the long coat gene.

@ susie- I will as soon as I get his DNA results back! I'm going to go out on a limb and GUESS that he's going to come back as a stock coat carrying the long coat gene. Will see if I'm correct!

I myself would call him a stock coat. I also would not be surprised to see his coat turn more toward regular short coat as he gets older.
Not all coated dogs get big hairy ears and legs. I myself like his look. I think he's quite nice looking.
I thought the days of criticizing the coated dogs had passed.bI would be happy to have him!
