About three months ago, I purchased a "Dyson DC-14 Animal" and it is fantastic. My wife says it is the best she has ever used. Works great on animal hair and "never loses suction strength", according to the company. I believe them so far. Cost about $549.00 at Lowes. There are several different models of the DC-14 but I went with the one called "Animal" for obvious reasons. Highly recommended. Go to Dyson.com and check them out. They probably will all work nicely.

Bob-o, you should try the Dyson DC-14 animal. Maybe borrow one to see if it lives up to your expectations. Probably could even buy one and if not satisfied, return it. It really does work great. And no, I don't own any stock in the company nor do I sell vacuum cleaners :)

I'm another Dyson user. I bought the Dyson DC15 Animal with the swivel ball (or whatever it's called) in September. I purchased mine online when the store had a sale and I had a 20% off coupon. I think I ended up paying like $400-$450. I do agree with Hodie though - emptying the canister is a pain and can be annoying when cleaning out the canister. I can't vacuum my bedroom without emptying the canister 3x. However, the suction and pet hair pick up is phenomenal. After using both a bag and a bagless vacuum - I still wouldn't give up my Dyson for anything else right now (unless it was a central vac system).

After almost yearly replacements of vaccum cleaners, I've settled in nicely with a Miele full size canister, runs around $1200. Great with dog hair and I can actually talk and listen on the phone while vaccuming - very very quiet. Electronic wattage control allows my to easily vaccum everthing from bare floors to drapery and lampshades without changing tools. Besides price, the only bummer is the bags which are not readily found at your local home stores or Walmart. You should first decide between canister and upright, then go from there. Check out this site, I use it alot... http://www.consumersearch.com pulls in reviews from review sources, ranks the reviews, and summarizes the best choices.

Dyson RULES!! My wife is allergic and now dogs and cat can come upstairs. Dyson does not clog up with hair in first 5 minutes. Emptying and cleaning is easy straightforward operation too. Even the lifetime HEPA filter snaps out and back in easily, Can you tell we love this thing?

I too, had vacuum issues. Last year I begged for an Animal Dyson for Christmas and I got one. The day it arrived, I had just finished vacuuming my house with our regular vacuum, which is good. I was SHOCKED to say the least at the amount of dirt and fur that the dyson got up, after I thought my floors and carpet were clean. Yes, they are expensive. Yes, they are worth it...but the good news....Linens N Things carries the animal dyson and often in the sunday news you can get a 20% off coupon for ALL items at linens and things. That is a good way to get the Dyson a bit cheaper. 100 bucks off is a good deal. I love my dyson for vacuuming out my truck. It is amazing, the job it does even cleaning my truck. Well worth every penny! Plus the online dyson site has a do it yourself diagnostic interactive program. It helped me tremendously when I thought something was wrong with mine. Took me all of two minutes to figure out what had come loose, after a dog knocked it down a flight of stairs. Get a Dyson, you won't regret it!
