Who knows what provoked this gruesome attack from their own pet!

Is there a better article? That article was pretty horrendous, itself. Was she 65 or 56? Ok, sure, typo, but then there's talk about more than one dog, the dog in the street, then she's under her car...weirdness all around. Seems pieced together and hard to follow.

Ok, I found a few more reputable sources and they are VERY vague. Weird. Apparently, the dog wasn't really hers. It belonged to one of her 26 yr old twin sons who still live at home (winners!) I'm curious to hear more as it's released; usually, the "real" newspapers are a bit more sensational. The local Humane Society person there said the attack had nothing to do with breed. Curious if that was based on real facts that we're not privy to or if it was a just a quick PR thing b/c the shelter there is full of them and they're afraid they won't get adopted now.

I like to see pictures of the dog and hear the dog's history with stories like this. Beetree, if you hear a "real" story or find one written as more details are released, update please.

Here is another version from an eye witness. It does seem the woman is 65, not 56, by most accounts. If there are updates, I will post with pictures. Have not seen any of the dog, yet.

Yeah, I read that one, too. That one doesn't mention another dog like one of them did. One said the neighbors were interviewed and no one knew the people- just that the dog belonged to her 26yr old sons and they "kept to themselves." Doesn't help the background of the story, much.

Anyway...maybe when she's out of the hospital we'll hear her version.

Re-read article. See post below.

Did we read the same article? The article only mentioned one dog. It attacked the victim, who fled under her car, then ran into the street aggressively at a biker who saw the woman under the car. When police arrived it was trying to attack the woman again and they killed it. The sequence was quite easy to follow. Maybe they edited it between the two of us reading it.

It sounds to me like the dog went crazy. I can't imagine this being due to "pitbull aggression". I have never heard of a pitbull continuing to try to attack someone for that length of time. Most stories describe a swift attack that ends quickly.

Maybe Humane Society was right----it wasn't the dog's breed.....the dog simply went crazy. Isn't there some type of "rage" that can occur with a dog? It sounds funny when put like that but I recall reading about a syndrome where the dog just goes crazy for no reason.

And although it drives me crazy when people claim that "the average person can't identify a pit bull"**.......where is a photo of this dog? Could just be a journalist using the word pit bull to create hype.

***My stepfather is a lawyer that has a few cases a year regarding dog attacks. According to the law, a pit bull type dog is any dog that has apbt, stafforshire terrier, american bulldog, english bulldog, chow, or a mix of any of those in it. So a pit/lab cross would be a pit bull type dog in court.

i am sure  two 25 year old loosers who still live with their 65 year old mother are a true representation of someone who should not even own a dog...just read about the description of the property and state it is in....i bet that dog was not fed, vaccinated, altered or had any kind of rules or training...there are no bad dogs...just waste of a breath humans....

"There are no bad dogs"...whoever came up with that needs to live in this world. Of course there are bad dogs, they are born that way, its called genetics and I believe that most dogs on this planet are screwed up in some way.
What does the property or the neutering have to do with anything? I know dogs that were bomb proof in temperament and lived in shitholes with never any adverse effects on their temperaments and I have seen dogs that lived like royalty that needed to be put down due to shitty genetics.

I didn't read the story, don't care to either, but I do agree, there are most definitely bad dogs out there, of all shapes and sizes.  It seems people spend more time excusing dogs with bad temperament than they do demanding better dogs.  If people demanded better, breeders would have to produce better and quit excusing everything.  Some dogs are nuts.  and if you have one and want to love it like nobody else can, fine.  Just be honest about what you have and keep it and everyone else safe.
