Your right Susie.... there is no need to talk about things that have been said a million times already. It obviously isnt working so we must try something else. I say holding a large trial benfiting ST. JUDES CHILDREN HOSPITAL would speak volumes. But it seems the only BENEFIT people are really interested in is their own agenda and their wallets/purse.

Maybe the final 1% are the "Don't Knows"  Wink Smile

Hey Susie, I think it would be quite exciting if we could have a big trial/training session for the posters on PDB with their dogs and we could find out who really has good dogs and good training. It would be quite interesting....and I would be bringing an American bred dog to boot!

LongCoat is a preference for some owners, and stock coat has been the preferred
coat. LC will always be 'in the genes' lurking. It reminds me of the TB breeders who didn't
want color in their stock. It is similar to animal eugenics. I wonder if there is a LC who
has attained a ZVV3 or other similar title!? I think someone mentioned a percentage
of LC working 'greats'. I believe there is a stigma associated with the LC, and that might be one
of many reasons why there not paraded around. Improving the breed can be so many things.
It has to start from the top organizations to 'betterment' the breed. Policy makers get rather
emotional in making PC decisions to ban this, that when only educated answers are the key.
Let the LC stay. I don't think the genes won't let you anyway. Unless if your playing  _ _ _.

Forgot about the people telling me, that they are able to evaluate x-rays by themselves, and buyers should trust their opinion

almost all of them don´t need a show result for breeding, because they know how a German Shepherd has to look like

What a great idea!  I'll bring a dog too, he was also bred in the US.

I say lets take it one step further. Only females Lets see what the mothers of all these litters are made of.

Ah, vomeisenhaus, not only females, a good dog is a good dog, male or female, stock coat or coat.

But back to topic: "Improving of the breed":
It´s up to every single breeder to improve his/her OWN STOCK.
That said, it´s impossible to improve something you don´t know about, and / or you never tested outside of the dog´s comfort zone.

Or your backyard!   Some people have the Bundeseiger of their neighborhood.  A 300 pt dog in their backyard.

A working dog in the backyard ...

I suppose improving the breed can only be done if there are a rather large percentage of breeders who know genetics and what a good dog for a certain job is ,and are critical about the dogs character and health above all. The other way is to have more rigorous demands on breedingdogs, especially health because I guess that´s the easiest to have high demands on, there should be open registries where veterianry reports serious genetic diseaes so nothing is hidden. If this isn´t enough for betterinhg health and workingability there is always the option of crossing some close cousins like the malinois into the genepool if a broader genepool would give healthier and better workingdogs;)
