Gustav I think that is a great idea --I have the perfect not only american bred but also half Am SL............

A good dog is where you find it. I have seen a lot of shit come from Europe but also the best I have seen. IMO a breeding dog is a great dog with a great pedigree and the rest are just dogs. I know a fella that owns a great dog, some of the worse shit bred American lines I have ever seen, but on the other hand I have papers that would make a WGWL top breeder drool and the dog was shit. It really does take it all just to take a chance of producing good dogs for the future.

the data base is going to host a dog show/trial/breedsurvey?  let me give you a view into the future post.   HEY DID ANYBODY GO TO THAT DATA BASE SHOW/TRIAL/BREED SURVEY/THINGY LAST WEEKEND? CAN YOU BELIEVE THE BS THEY PULL JUST TO SAY THEY HAD A TOP DOG THERE? WHERE DID THE JUDGES LEARN ABOUT THIS BREED ANYWAY? I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THIS NONSENSE FOR AS LONG AS I OWN GSDs. I've been reading these improve the breed threads for years now and all I can say is everyone seems to want to go in one direction or the other and no one seems to know just what the breed is supposed to be.
For all the attributes and qualities one might aspire to it all starts with intelligence and vigor.

A stupid lazy dog makes a good foot warmer and if its pretty to boot, well you've got yourself a dog, one to be proud of.

I've had the pleasure of owning a couple of real German Shepherd Dogs during my lifetime and I can tell you, you'll know one when you see it.

It's not that anyone needs to improve the breed, it's more an issue with not breeding the inferior specimens.

@ Vonissk's ....lol....Though I was being somewhat facetious, my point about us bringing our dogs is to see through our dogs our understanding of what the breed should be. As another poster said, A good dog is a good dog and when seen it is easily recognized. Just like you have backyard breeders who are lacking, you also have dogs that are lacking. Just as you have backyard breeders in all lines, you also have backyard dogs of all lines because they have major deficits by the standard no matter how much they are loved or who owns them. So it would be interesting to see people's understanding of the breed through what "they" think is a good dog. Because in the end, a good dog is a good dog, and a backyard dog is a backyard dog. ( please keep in mind that this post is about improving the breed, and not denigrating individual pet owners, but rather seeing the quality of the dogs that people feel represent the standard)

No offense,
but you might be surprised by what you'd find in some peoples back yards.

The standards don't change according to how one feels, they need no translation, and they must all be taken as a whole or not taken at all.
All things considered, all things being equal, it still boils down to the most intelligent.

I don't know anyone who title's for it sadly.

I do not care what it is, the first time a less quality, intact animal is sold the breed will be ruined.

Paul, by that definition the breed has been ruined thousands of times over
already.

You are correct, and it has. Poor quality dogs make up the majority of most breeds. Finding pet homes for culls that are not altered causes the most of the problems. A Breeding program is an expensive adventure if you are going to try to improve the breed.
