Jenni78

Ok, I've REALLY been over-thinking this hair thing. I mean, y'all know I tend to over-analyze to begin with, but last night, I had a dream that ALL the blue pups developed weird, Maltese-type hair on top/front of their heads. WOW, was that weird looking. I come out to the kitchen in the morning, and there they are, looking like a cross between Kitkat's bald Yorkie and GSD. I was so upset, frantically researching what could possibly have happened, is this some unheard of disease? Are they cross-bred? Where did a small, long-haired breed gain access to Aria when she was receptive, and what do I tell everyone?!  That may be the weirdest dream I've had in years.

LMAO- I think I need to relax and just accept that Ely/Einstein/Blade/Comb-Over is going to be what he will be and there's not much I can do about it at this point but wait and see..and of course update pictures. Wink Smile

Apparently there is a veterinary microscopic exam of the hair follicles
that can be done, to determine if / what type of alopecia it is,  ( a 'trichograph', ?
something like that).

I tried to get my vet to look into something like that and he thinks it's too coincidental that it's exactly congruent with his fontanel and it is what it is, and barring any developing inflammation, I'm worrying needlessly. He says if I'm that concerned, to start saving for a custom hairpiece.

I'd be saving for the trichograph instead.

I'd rather know.
The Chi bitch I mentioned just has one small patch of hairlessness
on her head, she's not like that Yorkie, bald of body. Or bald on every
Blue bit.

Teeth Smile I´m with your vet !
Although I do know nothing about this, I don´t believe it´s alopecia, right now I wouldn´t care.
But if I were you I´d try to find a good working home for this guy, his expression is awesome!

In a case like this I would think the breeder/seller would want to know for sure if this is alopecia. It would be good to be able to tell the perspective puppy buyer yes or no. Not "I don't think" or "I'm not sure". For me it would be a peace of mind issue.

I´d wait a couple of weeks to see what happens - this is a blue pup, no breeding prospect, but maybe a great working dog.
I don´t believe that Jenni wants to make a lot of money out of this guy, and I don´t believe she will do a repeat litter.
Nature sometimes is weird - my assumption ( and it´s an assumption only ) is, that this happened before birth, and that there is a connection to the fontanella.

Incomplete fontanel closure is apparently much more common in the very
smallest breeds.  Never heard of that happening in a GSD (does not
mean it hasn't, just that I have never encountered it, & it does not seem
'worth a mention' in any of my GSD library).

It seems that this closes by about 6 weeks in puppies usually;  if any dog
still has a 'soft spot' by a year old, its not likely ever to close.  I don't see
any references to the problem having anything to do with the dog's colour -
so if there is that sort of problem with Blade / Einstein, Jen, then it is not
only highly 'coincidental' he happens to be blue, but also that he is such a
large breed.  ??

Jackie, yes he is lovely (he's a puppy, after all !), but if he were mine
I would feel like EduCanine about him.  Peace of mind.

How are you tonight ?
