JonRob,,Just spoke with Mary., She assured me that she has the dogs best in mind,,~~that's what she said ,,,
She said she has a lady coming from a search and rescue background on Thursday ,,She said she believes Lexi has some anxiety issues and of course I reminded her that the poor animal is in a very stressful environment.
Long story short  anyone interested can call Friday to see if she is still available. However, she thinks this lady on Thursday will be a good match.

Ruger1, thanks for calling and thanks for the update.

"Just spoke with Mary., She assured me that she has the dogs best in mind"

Unfortunately, the Huntington shelter's idea of the "dog's best" has killing the dog near the top of the list of "best" options. They really do consider it a "kind" thing to do.

My girlfriend has dealt with the Huntington shelter before. We would not be surprised if the shelter killed Lexi and then claimed that she had been placed in a home. So we will be following up on any supposed placement unless it's to a known PDB member. Even if the SAR lady's visit is for real, things could still fall through. So please keep calling or emailing the Huntington shelter if you want to help Lexi.

Thank you all for your help. It's wonderful to see so many people go out of their way to try to help Lexi.

I called back too, again got the answering machine. At least they know people are looking at Lexi, and hopefully she gets out,

Thanks, kitkat! Leaving a message on the Huntington shelter answering machine lets them know that folks care about Lexi and are watching what they do to her.

I just got off the phone with Mary.

1.  There is a person associated with SARs to come look/pick up the dog on Thursday.
2.  If that falls through, there is a rescue group, Indi Rescue, scheduled to come get her.

For the other rescues, go ahead and call to get in line incase the top 2 fall through.  Mary is asking that people call back on Friday.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, fawndallas! This appears to be the rescue group that Keith mentioned. I did email them and left them a voicemail about Lexi. I have not heard back from them. so I have not been able to confirm or disconfirm with them that they will get Lexi if the SAR thing falls through. I will keep trying.

Very good advice.

"Mary is asking that people call back on Friday."

I recommend calling today so the Huntington shelter does not forget, while the phones are shut off tomorrow and Thursday, how important Lexi is to a lot of people.

The SAR person is through a friend of mine.
I sent the info to her (my SAR friend) when you originally posted.

I wish that more people would start utilizing all the social media outlets available anymore prior to taking their dogs to the dog pound.
Yes, you must be dilugent and careful who you place your dog with. Seems these dogs were loved at one point.
And yes, when someone with limited funding to purchase a nice well bred dog, has a home and a heart to open up for "the unwanted", they should be able to come on board looking, without getting hung out to dry.
Just because someone does not have 1500-2500 to buy a dog, does not mean they are not capable of providing a suitable home for them.

Surprise, surprise, Mary is lying. Indy Rescue got back to me. All Indy Rescue has done is call the Huntington shelter and inquire about Lexi. If she isn't taken by the SAR person, Indy Rescue will discuss the potential of rescuing her. They are NOT scheduled to come get Lexi.

Now I'm really worried that the Huntington shelter intends to kill Lexi and cover it up. Remember, they consider Lexi a typical defective GSD because being ripped out of her home and being surrounded by the smell of dead dogs makes her anxious.

Steve, so this is for real? I hope they take Lexi just to get her out of there even if she doesn't look promising as a SAR candidate. If she's not suitable for SAR, she can always be rehomed.

Kitkat, all very good points. A lot of people don't know about PDB, unfortunately. The PDB folks have been incredibly effective at saving GSDs. It's amazing what a bunch of dedicated folks who really love GSDs can do.
