Bundishep, it´s not that easy. A lot of breeders/owners don´t send in bad x-rays, and the ZW is about HD only, doesn´t mention ED (!).
It´s always good to take a look at www.winsis-cat.com, there are alot of progeny and siblings listed...
The more pups listed, the better the results for research... It´s not about the fatherline only, but the motherline, too - and at the end the 2 lines have to fit to each other.

What should make you wonder while looking at progeny and siblings:

A dog listed with a show rating, but without HD/ED result ( doesn´t make sense )
A dog listed with a trial rating, but without HD/ED result ( doesn´t make sense, too )
A dog listed without any siblings, although it´s out of a well known kennel, be it show or working line

This doesn´t say that there is always something fishy ( x-rays not sent in ) but it´s worth further research.Wink Smile

Kind regards

Susie you make some good points, I suspect some dogs will never be on the radar for not reporting Xrays, but at the same time I think the better breeders care about the breed and reputations of their own kennel,if a kennel puts out too many BAD hips or elbows I would think its going to hurt their reputations and how many kennels want to slit their own throats,I know what your talking about systems can be cheated or manipulated, but I would say the bottom line is most care about improving strong healthy bone joints,we are all in this together as far as trying to fig. out if a bad gene is comming from sire or dam side thats why the internet is a good tool so we can all talk to each other and share our results to improve the breed,as far as this site goes my complant is that when you look up a birthdate of a dog on pedigree database too many are leaft out,I know alot of people know the birth date of their own dogs they enter on this site, is it just laziness ?  and also why are SOOOOOOO many dogs listed on this site that elbows show UNKOWN when in fact they are known. and to add to that pedigree data base is on a honor system for the person that enters the dog, a dog could fail for hips and some people enter that they pass on this site a better system would be if your saying your dog passed than a cert number must be provided for proof at the time the dog is entered on pedigree database, not sure OFA is the best of systems either because they ask you when you  enter your dogs Xrays results if you would like it to shared with the general public. And if results are not to be shared its harder to detect and veiw the failures.

As for x-rays.... I know that there is the OFA and SV...etc..... What would be really nice and I beleive a GREAT benefit to the German Shepherd breed would be to all of these different registries for hips/elbows link back to the SV so that we can have a true reading of the ZW score. I know that not every person will xray their dogs... I know that OFA does not charge to have the results listed for a dog that does not pass. I wish that the SV did the same. Maybe... just MAYBE then more people would have the not passing grades posted.

Under 2 year old Drago son. Just received a perfect score on BH.

OGBS

The man who judged the trial, including the BH of the dog above, this past weekend has been an SV judge for 30 years or so, and has been a judge at the BSP and the WUSV. As part of his critique of this dog's BH he said that it is the best BH he has seen in all of his years as a judge. Great dog and a great handler/trainer!

The BH is a pass/fail.... but you must get 42 points out of the 50 to pass...

As for your other statement... I am not even going to comment!

The one thing I will say is I would suggest that you read.. study.. and watch ALOT more dogs before you make that statement. Because the time, energy, money, and dedication that goes into training these "circus animals"  is a far cry from a circus act!

From the statement that you made, I respect that is how YOU FEEL.... but I feel that no one should be made fun of or degraded with snide comments when they take the time and energy to TRAIN THEIR DOG. At least this dog is being trained instead of locked in some kennel or backyard and forgotten about.

Just my .02 cents worth..
