I took a minute or two to look at this ad..I have never spent any time looking at the white shepherd ads or read much about them. I had enough knowledge intruction years ago from mentors .

I am impressed with this kennel and their results.

Very nice. The GSDCA just sent out ballots to their members about including the whites and coats in conformation in the regular classes. I am not a member but my friend is and was telling me about it. I guess changes are coming.

Bossa Nova von White Angel

The moderate, old-fashioned structure of these dogs would not fly in the current AKC ring. I would hate to see them become overangulated just so they could win against the current AKC style GSDs.

Very nice looking dogs!  And looks like they can certainly work, too!

It's probably not going to pass the membership vote. I haven't talked to any members who are in favor of it. In case anyone is interested, this a a brief explanation of what we are voting on:

Change the DQ for a dog with a nose that is not predominately black. to say -" it is to be seriously faulted".

Coat - change faults in coat from to "include soft, silky, too long outer coat, wooly, curly, and open coat" to read "soft silky, curly, open coat, and lack of  undercoat".

Color- change "Pale, washed out colors and blues or livers are serious faults. A white dog must be disqualified." to read "Livers, blues, white, and dogs without predominately black noses are very serious faults. Dogs exhibiting albino characteristics are to be disqualified".

Since a Breed Standard revision is required, this must pass by a 2/3 affirmative of those members voting.

Now I have to ask - where did  you get that photo of the white dog, SS?  Who is the dog?

It would be my guess white shepards will never be able to compete in sport at the highest levels, they just dont have the gene pool to pull from and tap into as do the shepards with nice dark pigment, perhaps they might keep cooler in the sun on hot days compared to solid black shepards.

It's from the ad linked to above!  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/classifieds.viewad?adid=213195

If you want to know how I did that, you right-click on the photo, then copy the address info. The address must end in .jpg or it won't work. Then you paste the address into the appropriate spot in our photo sharing program.

Not an American dog then? Polish dog? Does the FCI accept white shepherds in the same standard with the "other" Shepherds? It does not. We know Germany does not. As  most probably know in the US the American White Shepherd has it's own registry, makes it's own rules, approves its own judges, and holds its own breed specific shows. Not sure why they want to be part of the AKC scene, but it would behoove the GSDCA to allow them as it would be a big boost for their membership number. Nothing is single factored is it? That is a good looking dog, but how many white GSD's in the US look like that?

White Shepherds have their own registry and have become the Berger Blanc Suisse, which is the White Swiss Shepherd Dog (formerly known as the white German Shepherd Dog) and is FCI accepted.

I cannot believe how the GSDCA wants to change the faults. They can't be serious! I truly hope they are not getting through with this.

After there was such a long and hard fight to get the BBS accepted it would be catastrophic for the breed if they were to become what the AKC Showline is today.

I totally agree, Erbe!

And looking at these dogs, I can well understand why Tina Barber did a white shepherd outcross during the 1990's to Hoofprint Orbit. By then they were the only North American shepherds who still had the old-fashioned structure she was trying to preserve!

The American white shepherd has gotten a bit more angulated and stretched than these dogs, but is not as extreme as the ASL show dogs. (Note Hoofprint Orbit in Rufus's pedigree, and his descent from the Rin Tin Tin dogs.)

I wish our GSD's had that conformation (like they used to).  Nice looking dogs that work.  Always a good thing.
