Ok, I'll bite.

"Best" is such a subjective term. Different people will have different ideas of what is "best." Conformation (German OR AKC) versus Sport versus Tactical/PPD, versus Herding, versus Service Lines... et cetera.

Ask five different GSD afficianados who have been in the breed for a while what dog they consider to be the "best" stud, and you're very apt to get five different answers. It really all depends what that potential breeder is looking for, what traits they want, and which they don't. "Best" is the dog that most closely fits with their ideal of the breed standard, while maintaining mental and structural integrity of the breed. There's enough lines of GSDs out there, and clearly enough folk who argue that their preferred line is "best."

Without a breeding goal and plan, the whole concept of "best" is irrelevent. A male with exceedingly high prey drive might be best for sport, but he'd be one hell of a lousy choice for herding.

This has to be one of the silliest threads since last night multi-colored tantrum.

Pedigree is totally relevant when trying to make good pairings taking compensation for strengths and weaknesses into the equation. If you're not brand new to the breed, you know certain lines are known for certain things and one must take the entire background into consideration because the dog in front of you may be representative of typical, or it may be a total anomaly. The experienced know which is which and make plans accordingly.

No one can say who the best is without knowing what particular traits are most important in this situation. If you don't want to share the pedigree AND tell us details about the bitch, at least tell us the details on the bitch, the good, bad, and the ugly. Strengths and weaknesses in previous pups and what type studs brought what traits out and so on.

p.s. I've never had a bitch turned down for a breeding to any male I've ever inquired about...and I don't even own a stud male so never do my own "in house" breedings...so let's head off the "I wouldn't understand because my dogs aren't as good as yours" stuff.

Of course pedigree is totally relevant.  My ol' dog is European  Show-bred.  He has NO Show titles and no Working Titles.

The second is entirely my fault as I was unable to put the (organised) Training on him  (he's always shown plenty of aptitude,

if I could have got to a Club).   About the only thing going for his breeding is his longevity, he'll be 12 by Xmas.

It is not a breeding I would have done.   Far too much Uran W, for one thing.

He has six Siegers on the 5-gen page, three of them DoubleYear.  He also has five UK  Show Champions in that same

number of ancestors.  The breeding was done by my late mentor,  an Excellent graded bitch  to a stud held by one of England's

leading kennels.  [You can check his pedigree on here - Devat Adunamoir].  As far as I know his litter brothers and

sisters have done nothing spectacular either.  He is overshot;  has a muscular condition that results in an almost

permanent limp, and spoils his Gait;  he was born with an umbilical hernia (which he doesn't have now cos he

survived a Bloat surgery two years ago Regular Smile), and he's 0.5 cm too big. Therefore he failed his Survey.

But he's Haemo 'A'  Clear, and has  3:3 hips.   He has no offspring - deliberately so.

I tell you all this to make the point that puppy breeding is a crap-shoot, no matter how much you think you know

about the breed, and how good the quality of the stock you are working with.

If members can see what's in the pedigree and Koerung of your bitch, Dawg,  they may well spot something that they know is

unlikely to 'click' with either of the two studs mentioned;  and/or be able to recommend a better partner for her.  That is all

they were saying, and your reluctance to produce even a photo of her is highly reminiscent of the sort of know-all newbies

with crap GSDs THEY think are the best in the world, without any reason, that come to the PDB  quite often, so its an easy

mistake to make about your OP.

Jenni, I was considering suggesting that the OP read your recent post about your "E" litter if he or she is convinced that pedigrees don't matter.

by Blitzen on 02 October 2014 - 12:10

This looks to me like a thread that was intended to elevate Nino over Chacco or vice versa by getting members here to talk about what those dogs have produced in open breeding. It may not be a newbie doing the asking.

by gsdstudent on 02 October 2014 - 12:10

wow! do we think someone is on this chat room with an agenda? Maybe baiting us? He/she is a master.

by bzcz on 02 October 2014 - 12:10

YR,

Thanks for you concern, my boys hips and elbows are fine.

I think I'll stick to my Koolaid, your seems to be a little ....bitter.

by Ibrahim on 02 October 2014 - 13:10

E litter is not the best in the world, but many breeders can benefit from following the progress of those puppies, I see it was a intelligent breeding, eyes could be darker in a similar future breeding.

US gives Jordan yearly AID, I will request his Majesty our King to request Mr. Obama that next aid includes a Capri " copy paste " daughter Teeth Smile

Nothing bitter left...the point being...titles and koers mean little ...It is what the ROLL OF THE DICE brings.

Hundmutter ditto just another conversation that leads to same ending..

the word PROVEN means what?

Jenn hit the nail square on the head.....
