Not trying to bash any dog, just looking for qualities people like in top studs.  I only mentioned nino and chacco because I know they have lots of progeny and maybe some of you could share what you like about them.   I am open to any stud that is proven.

I really think the pedigree of my bitch is almost irrelevant to this conversation unless we are trying to achieve a pair with zero line breeding in a specified number of generations.

Yes, I understand the sire and dam must be matched on phenotypic characteristics, but if you are looking for the BEST STUD in the USA I believe there are only a handful of studs that have proven theirselves, and that is what I am looking for insight on.

I think this could benefit all breeders

Yes, and yours is so much better where you doubt his legitimacy and tell him to go away for trying to knock the two stud dogs. (which he hasn't)

Out of four paragraphs of your post you knock him on two of them, doubt him on the third paragraph with a I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now comment and on the fourth paragraph reiterate what has already been said a couple of different times by others.

And everyone else's responses are wrong (according to you).

1GSDawg. why don't you pm Reggie so you can get the advice you need? You are never going to get agreement on the best stud in the US on this database, especially a GSL. And, yes, your female's pedigree is very relevant as are her health checks, hip and elbow status and her training to date. The questions you are continuing to ask here will only serve to get you more criticism.

1GSDawg makes my point again for me.  It is a dumb breeding plan.

GSDawg.   Calling your bitches pedigree irrelevant ignores all of her genetic contribution to the puppies.  50% of the value you have just thrown away.  Not to mention the effect her temperament will have on the puppies early imprinting.  The breed starts with strong females, not the males.

As I've said, you don't really understand how to breed and you run the risk of creating a litter of puppies that are nothing like what you want and having them live a life of misery because of your ignorance.  You don't understand enough at this point to even ask the right questions.  You need a mentor to help you with a breeding plan, if your bitch is even breed worthy.

At this point we don't know and we will just keep hashing over the same posts.  You can argue with the entire board as long as you want but the bottom line is that YOU will never change any of our minds (even though we can't agree amongst ourselves) because your lack of knowledge and your "breeding plan" dooms you and the puppies to failure.

Just post the pedigree of your dog...dont be defensive. There may be some obnoxious responses but it generally all good. If you dont like the feed back, then ignore it.

Blitzen, I understand your intent to help this person t make educated decisions on breeding his bitch, but Reggie is not a breeder....he's a smart guy and a responsible dog owner but not a breeder.

by Blitzen on 01 October 2014 - 14:10

Joanro, my understanding is that Reggie wants to help him to find a GSL breeder who can mentor him. Maybe refer him to the breeder of his own dog, Nadia Adams; a very well respected GSL breeder. I'm not convinced that this entire thread wasn't designed to start another of those what's-wrong-with-showline-dogs drama, but I think the OP deserves the benefit of the doubt unless proven otherwise.

As you and I have discussed many times, one of my biggest concerns is that GSD people won't mentor newbies. There are many lost opportunities to give good advice to newbies when they instead are condemned and belittled for asking "stupid" questions. I always remember that I came very close to buying my first purebred dog from Doktor's Pet Center, I wanted a female to breed and show, didn't know any better until I met a breeder (with a different breed) who showed me the error of my ways. Time will tell if this is a real issue for the OP or not.

I sure never want to misrepresent myself.  A breeder? Nope and not intent of.  Will my dogs be bred?  Yes but I won't be the one making those decisions.  In the years now associated with the GSD my knowledge has greatly increased.  Most importantly I know where  to go and who to talk to for what I need to find out.  Do I respect Nadia?  yes greatly.  Lots of knowledge and her program is continually making  progress forward.  But there are other people out there also who are also doing well with their programs.  Several of these people might be good for 1GSDawg to speak to in answering their questions.  Everyone of us started somewhere and all of you with knowledge and experience learned in one manner or another from others.  And when I see someone who seems sincere in their desires I refuse to belittle them or to even discourage them but rather will try either answer their question if I can or direct them to someone who will do so in a kindly fashion with out being demeaning.

Don't buy it for a minute that GSD people won't mentor newbies.  I know way too many who will and do.

I don't buy for a minute that this is a sincere post.
