Donald.....besides her and I am assuming her husband, there are 3 other board members for Dogs 4 Warriors, have you tried contacting any of those 3 people to see if they were aware that this had happened, perhaps they are in the dark about it, maybe worth a shot

by Donald Harris on 08 November 2014 - 19:11

I sent 6 dogs to Dogs4Warriors in September.  I asked about Sheila and the program she runs in a lot of places including this forum and got no negative feedback so I am hopeful the leopard has not changed it's spots.  Before we get a rope, light the torches and burn down the barn with everyone inside I suggest we find out what has been going on with Sheila and Dogs 4 Warriors.  When I talked to Sheila she sounded very tired and somewhat overwhelmed by the enormity of the task she was trying to do.  My read of her website and facebook page was that she was getting a lot of verbal support but financial and labor donations were not coming in and she was doing way too much with far too little in resources and manpower.  From my viewpoint I am OK with the dogs going where they fit, talent and personality wise, as long as they are well cared for and treated with respect.  Sheila took at least 3 dogs from me that were high drive and I could not see them as therapy or assistance dogs but I do not know how and who she trained the dogs for.  I gave my dogs to Sheila because I trusted her to find them good homes and if she does that then I am happy with her and happy for my dogs.  If not then I will pull on the rope but some facts before the neck tie party please.

If donated dog arrives at a facility and is sold the VERY NEXT DAY to a police department.....that is NOT an honest placement. That is a shady business going on. This person lies, and cheats people of their dogs.

If she made the phone call to the owner asking him a permission to "sell" the dog to profit the organization, I think this would not be happening. I am sure she has placed dogs with Veterans but at this point I am certain people who donated their dogs want to know how many of them really made it to the service they were donated for and how many were boldly sold. I hope she used the money for the dogs4 warriors organization or otherwise, she needs to go to jail for a while.

I donated six dogs to Dogs4Warriors so I have as much riding on this organization as most involved in this discussion.  I would be careful about believing everything I read, see, or hear on the internet or in a newspaper.  Looks like Dixie got a pretty good gig in a local small police department with a seemingly nice handler .. I sent a big male WarBonnet Erny that has over the top drives to Dogs4Warriors and if he gets a similar type situation I will be happy for him and if the money helps fund the training and care of the dogs going to the veterans that is OK by me.  Erny was climbing a six foot vertical wooden fence when he was 8 months old so I never thought he would be a good candidate for a therapy dog and I was curious why Shelia picked him but I am not up to speed on how and who the Dogs4Warriors program trains dogs for.  I am sure that in order to run a program like the Dogs4Warriors program it takes infrastructure and equipment.  You can't buy equipment or build kennels by giving dogs away to veterans so Sheila must use donated money and possibly sell some dogs to fund the program and the infrastructure needed.  Running a non-profit is a slippery slope I suspect with regards to spending money.  If Dogs4Warriors is not being honest with owners donating dogs to them then it will become obvious over time.  Finding good homes for dogs based on their personality and skill set is no small feat and if Sheila gets my six dogs into good homes with people who understand them and treat them fairly and well I will be happy.  My understanding was that the Dogs4Warriors program also used shelter dogs and now they are using some prison inmates at a nearby prison to help with the dog training.   It seems to me Sheila and Dogs4Warriors program has taken on a huge job with a lot of moving parts so I am not keen to back seat drive without more information.

I will take a look at your facebook page.  I only wanted my dogs to land in good homes and with people who would treat them fairly and well.  No matter if you sell a dog or give them away they soon are beyond your control if you hand them over to someone else.  I have run across plenty of fake breeders with bogus titled dogs that were not really trained and plenty of buyers who were idiots without a clue about what a high drive dog would be like to live with.  Lies, corruption and stupidity are what I have come to expect as both a buyer and a seller from the dog business and the people in it.  I have seen buyers who want to bring a dog back after 3 or 4 days because the dog didn't want to be part of their family .. no patience and no sympathy for what the dog is going through in a new home and with a new environment.  I don't know Sheila Slazek or her circle of friends and business associates.  I relied on others who knew her to advise me and at the time I gave her my six dogs she came highly recommended.  My experience is that the Leopard does not change it's spots.  If Sheila is a fake she is a damn good one as I am pretty good at spotting them and after I talked to her I thought she was the real deal and apparently many of you here and other places felt the same.  Sheila sent a driver named Justin with a six dog trailer to get my dogs at her expense and I loaded them up and sent them on their way to what I hoped would be a good life with people who could care for them well and train them and give them a good chance to succeed.  Before I get too critical of what Dogs4Warriors is doing I need some feedback that says the dogs are being mistreated or not properly cared for and trained.  I have been a breeder and I have cared for a large number of dogs in a kennel and it is a tough job to keep it all straight and properly address the individual needs of each dog.  I had no thought that after I gave Sheila my dogs that I would ever see them again in the flesh as they were not coming back to me and she would find them a home where they fit if they did not work out as a assistance/therapy dog or a companion dog for a veteran.  Donald Harris has raised a red flag and probably rightly so as he had different expectations than I did.  Before I get too carried away I want to hear from Sheila and her organization as I would be happy if my dogs got a sweet job like his dog Dixie got.  I am the sworn enemy of those who mistreat dogs and treat them as things to be bought, sold and thrown away when used up.  My dogs are my friends and family and I will come to their defense and help them if I can even after they are out of my hands.

I sent an email to the Dogs4Warriors email list on Friday Nov 7 and got a reply back this afternoon (Sunday Nov 9) from Sheila.  She answered my questions about my six dogs which were donated and which were questions asked before this thread was started to my satisfaction.

Yah, I bet she will start coming up with answers.

What people seem to forget is that this did not start off about her program being in question, but the fact that she did not honor her contract to return Don's dog if she did not make it as a service dog. The fact that the dog arived at her place and within a couple days the dog was with a Police dept that was told they were getting a Czech import, when in fact the dog was from a breeder right here in Texas.  After many times speaking to the dog's breeder Sheila failed to mention the dog was with a dept.  Seriously, is anyone really foolish enough to think that a couple days is enough time to evaluate a dog?

Lets assume she did place dogs with warriors like she said she did. Does that make it right for her to not have to follow through with her original agreement with a dog donated that she agreed to return should it not make it?

Lots of questions to be answered now. Wonde if she wll come up with the answers for them?

Im not sure how to post a link to my facebook acount but everything is posted there. Her new handler was unaware that dix came from.thw us. He was under the impression she was a czech import. No vet records were given even thougj they were sent with the dog.. anything that could trace the dog back.to not being a czech import was hiden! Come to find out dix was a replacement for a black shepherd they had that wouldnt bite but instead want his belly rubbed. But when i confronted sheila she came.out and said dix was a replacment as there previous dog wouldnt bond with the handler. Everything and i mean everything out of her mouth is a lie. Dont believe a word she says. Just like Axl she said he was at the prison and will be going back. I dont think axl was ever at the prison. And my inside source tells me.axl.is more high strung than dix. So hows he going to male a service dog. Im fine with dix being with the pd. Tbats fine. Im not.going to punish them for her actions. Tbey love dix. But sheila will return that money and im.providing all documentation to the pd.
