Thanks guys! You have renewed my faith---- There are many "job specific" breedings today---- I am against the extremes. Some sport people need to realize this was a working dog before the rules for the schutzhund game were even thought of!!!! Work and Schutzhund are NOT necessarily interchangable words by definition??? GREAT Trainers are NOT looking to breeders to do all of their work for them---- Keep Smiling--- Did I mention tomorrow is day 300 with this young heart in this 65 year old chest? Morgan

I worked with a trainer with Mals and while some were excellent they have their own problems especially with nerves. They can be very good as they are lighter and quicker than GSD's. Kinda of a ugly dog as many have problem ears, ususally at lease one falls. I think we are seeing more and more people breeding nerves and drive back. While the top show lines have not changed this is to be expected as neither will the AKC show line people. I think we have plenty of good dogs to utilize and hopefully we will. PJ..Greast to hear you are doing well!

PJ: does that mean you had a transplant? Glad you are still kicking. A little off the subject but one time I was in the Vet's waiting room and this guy 88 years old was sitting next to me. We struck up a conversation and I found out that he written a book about "Trapping" in Ohio. He had some amazing stories about animals he had trapped, usually in a "dead trap" whereupon a rock would fall down on top of the animals head and kill it. I found it gross but he was an interesting person. Some of these animals he had trapped could not be identified by him or by the local wildlife officers, according to him. He stated that they appeared to be crosses between house cats and Bobcats or even Ocelots. Anyway, he told me that he never went into the animal doctors office with his wife and their little dog because he was afraid that his little dog would yelp or cry and he (the guy) avoided anything and everything that could excite him. He said he was afraid of literally dying from excitement. I am just mentioning this because your comment about your good heart brought him to mind. I hope he is doing okay and not watching TV :) I recently posted a little about myself on this site but Oli or whoever deleted it. I am not sure why, but it's their site and they can do what they wish. A couple of people posted on it, stating what an exciting and/or interesting life I had lead and they stated that their lives would bore me if they wrote about themselves. I doubt it. I have met many people over the years, that seemed like normal everyday people, nothing special. But when you get to really know them, they had facinating lives. I met one old cop (Andy Chartschenko) who was born in Austria of Hungarian parents, moved to Venezuella at age 6 and then went to art school in NY at age 18. Besides being one of the best damn narcs on the department, he spoke fluent spanish, russian, english and german. He was also the departments "composite artist", drawing suspect faces from just interviewing witnesses. I also found out that he had been a wrestler in high school and once swam across that body of water where the Statue of LIberty is located (I forget the name of that waterway), just to prove he could do it. I also found out that he had studied in a prestigious art school in NY and lived with and studied under a man who had been a student of Picasso himself. Andy also scuptured and had been featured in gallery shows of his work, some of them selling for thousands. I mention all of this because, he was just a cop and yet he had a facinating history. I bet everyone on this site also has a facinating story to tell, about their life. Almost everyone I have met in my life and learned about their history, was interesting and facinating. Us old guys need to make sure that our kids and grandkids know where and what they came from. Most of us do not tell them, as they appear bored with it and/or we keep putting it off, sometimes until it is too late. My father never knew what nationally his father was. I have not been able to find out in 20 years of investigating. What does this have to do with GSD's. Nothing. It was something I was going to add to my Meet the Member thread that was deleted.

Dudley, it was Helmut Raiser and I don't have the time to explain, but there is plenty of drive in the right GSDs. He is very critical of the so called showlines.

by Do right and fear no one on 19 February 2007 - 01:02

Okay. Thanks. That was my point. I guess I did not state my question correctly. I was asking why he would suggest going "out of breed" if the workinglines in the breed were good? Oh well, I guess no one can explain for him, except him.

Spook101; Who ARE you??? I am intrigued! What will it take for you to disclose your identity?? Sue

"I was asking why he would suggest going "out of breed" if the workinglines in the breed were good?" Maybe say something extreme to wake people up.

sueincc, how about $500,000 in small unmarked bills. DRFNO, the stink about Dr. Raiser is well publicized. He was being critical of the direction he perceived the SV was allowing the GSD to go. Google 'Helmut Raiser' and you'll find enough to read for a couple of evenings. It is interesting. He throws fits/tantrums to get his point across, but he seems to be genuine.
