Agreed western rider, in fact blue eyes is a breed disqualification. The price for the pups I pup up in the link are only $500- 600 . plus they are show and field tested. I love the weimeraner, if I was looking for a pup, I'd go with that kennel with out hesitation...but I'm not looking for another dog.

Fawn, the Weimaraner bred within German VDH are hound dogs, no pets.
Prior to breeding they have to participate in a hunt trial ( sorry, don´t know the correct English translation ), they are tested for character, and they need to be HD certified. Blue eyes are a serous fault. These are sold to hunters almost only, but the breed became very "trendy", and there are a lot of breeders breeding for the pet market now (without pedigrees). These dogs bred correctly are no pets.

Growing up had several of the Old Time ones.  You know those with good heavy strong bones good minds and nerves that could would guard before the show crowd changed them to the what they are now.

Though you can still find a good one if you go to those breeders who field work there dogs.

Sound familiar

Yes it does, WR.
The first weimaraner I ever got to know was when I was in the army in the early seventies. A guy in town had one, he was a 'hippy' and when he would 'over indulge' at a party, his weimaraner( which was with him every where the guy went) would lay over his master guarding him till he revived...no one dared to step with in ten feet of the two. When the guy was sober, the dog still stayed by his master's side, not a social butterfly.

Fawn,

I'm well acquainted with a couple that breed Weimaraners here in central Missouri-they have very nice dogs-compete in AKC events-teach & train at the canine center I attend-both are AKC judges-if you like, I can get their contact infro.

They have done really well around these parts as pets, they are similar to Labradors but more reserved like Pointers, They are "Gun Dogs" or "Bird Dogs"... They LOVE to fetch and can be trained easy with a ball as reward. The problem we have with the hounds as pets around these parts is most often the Bawling/Howling when they are left alone.

This is the kind of thread that reminds us why working dogs are going down the toilet. Look at what Weims used to be. Look at what they are now. Look at how people want things that are undesirable per the standard. That's it in a nutshell.

Jen, you're correct...it's the desire by the general public for one dog, the golden, in hundreds of different hides.
