In automotive world their are; Drag racers; distance racers; antique car shows; and concept cars just to think of a few. This chat room works best as a formum to educate all, but beginners are most important. How many beginners want to buy an ''Antique car'' as their first auto? How many can control the dragster? What if they really want to go to a tractor pull? Education starts by identifing a need. If the buying public would go see a few breeders and filter the VA, IPO3, Agility, UDT claims to what they need and want the breed would benifit. Service to the breed first

Hire dog, you just hit it on the head. Those AKC working, conformation titles, and other stuff are just done for making money for some people, but the worse think is those people

called themself breeders and handlers are killing the breed. That's why i stop going to AKC shows in 80s just like you because i saw what was coming.Watch those clowns pretending that they know how to train and handle working dogs was just unbearable to me.Even the toy group at the Westminster had better temperament and disposition than those ABD German Shepherds.

Ugh, I wish I made money showing in conformation.  So far from the truth.  It's a money sucking hobby.

You must be doing something wrong, Xeph. Everyone knows AKC breeders make tons of money selling shit GSD's to the unsuspecting American public. A lot more than the Germans get for the Va dogs they sell to Asia.

"Education starts by identifing a need."
After identifying the buyer's "need", THEN find the breed that meets those "needs"!

"If the buying public would go see a few breeders and filter the VA, IPO3, Agility, UDT claims to what they need and want [ , ] the breed would benifit."
NO! The breed would NOT benefit. UNLESS the "needs and want" are consistent with what the breed standard describes for the specific breed in question, no breed should be modified to individual 'needs and wants'.

"Service to the breed first"
You are suggesting "service" to the wants and needs of buyers.

Education starts with studying breed standards, learning what breed will SATISFY the buyer's 'needs and wants' and choosing a breed that is consistent with those needs and wants....rather than picking a 'purdy' dog that the buyer would like to be seen with but which may not be right for them. In which case they must find the breeder who is breeding substandard bastards which will meet the buyer's needs and wants. Not every breed is right for every buyer.
