Giant Schnauzers are no "off breeds". Traditionally they belong to the founder breeds of DVG. It´s a shame most of them became "pets only".

Susie - it is unfortunate that the Dobermann, Bouvier, Giant Schnauzer and Boxer breeds are mostly "pets" in N. America these days, and could be considered "off breeds" in sport.

Susie..yeah I know about the GS history. But, unfortuantely, over here they are an "off-breed". Very sad but true. It breaks her owner's heart as well but she stays with the breed when all the shepherd people try to convert her. Hats off to her!! Maybe more of these breeds still have working heritage in Germany. Over here, not so much..... it's too bad. That is why I mentioned I have seen a couple work.

I have also seen a boxer train. We actually trained for our BH together. He did pretty well but his bites weren't as good and he fell off the sleeve a lot cause of his sort of pushed in face (maybe he couldn't breathe well). But, he was a nice dog. I really enjoy seeing the versatility in breeds!!

Unfortunately, what I have seen on training field....even GSD showlines are considered an "off breed" by sport people. That attitude is really crappy.

I remember seeing standard poodles used as family guard dogs when I was a kid. 20 years ago I knew a some people with a horse farm that had a white standard that was their watch dog and very effective.

Nice picture:-)
