Thats why i like the AWD titles. Attack on the handler in the 1. 2 Helpers and the old turn on the dog long bite. Scored by the old Schutzhund rules the 3 is more like the IPO routine. I,d be just as happy to just title AWD titles. Do i care if the Germans recognize the titles? Not 1 dam bit.  I,d like to see the old DPO routines brought back.

Bob, is that not what the RSV2000 is doing also?

I believe they do a 6 foot vertical in there Kore class, I think they still adhere to the IPO standard in trialing. A more informed individual would have to answer that for sure. But even the way there doing the attack on the handler has turned into a run away!   

C'mon folks, STOP bashing the SV. They are only trying to make the title reachable by all dogs and owners.  After realizing on this forum that I was too stringent in my expectations of the breed, I finally see the light. After all, SV knows what's best for the breed....Right?

The FH1 changes bother me.  Having to track over streets and changes in terrain, is where most IPO trained dogs have the most difficulty because it is so different from the IPO1-3 tracking phases. They should just bring back the FH3 as well.

Some of these really are not so bad...

BH: Sit and down can be performed from basic position or in motion. 

I never liked that they put in that the handler must pause before the dog sits/lays down. With this new change, the team does not get 'dinged' for not pausing

 

IPO1-3: There will be 3 objects during tracking for all three trials.

Big deal, they made the 1 track now have 3 articles vs 2

 

The rest of the proposed changes really suck for SchH/IPO and the GSD.... But this is what you get when people start crying out that 'IPO is to Hard', 'It takes to long to get a dog ready for trials', 'we need to make it more friendly so the sport grows like barn hunt and dock diving'. 'IPO is dead/dying because no new members are joining because its too hard'

There are great ways that would allow the sport to grow treamendously but there are too many old hats at the UScA and the SV that do not have the foresight and stiffle the opportunities. Most of these proposed rule changes will only hurt the sport not help it.

I personally don´t like these possibly changes, but as a German I know WHY they want to change the rules.
First of all, it´s a FCI commission, not Germany "only" ( Netherlands, Austria, Slowenia, Italia, Germany VDH, and Germany SV ) who are discussing any rule changes - and that´s what they do every 5 years, not only now.

WHY these changes? Most of the changes are "peanuts", the IPO1 routine simply goes back to the routine we had before ( for a lot of years, and when the rules were changed, people were crying ).

FH - a bigger distinction between 1 and 2 - the 1 becomes easier, the 2 doesn´t change.

The biggest difference you find in obedience:

IPO1 hurdle only 95 cm, but now with a metal stick, able to fall down - IPO2 and 3 still 1 metre
The wall down to 1,60 metres for all three phases

The most important change: The retrieve of the dumbbell - now for IPO1 the dog "only" needs to retrieve once / without jump.

Why? A lot of people overseas never trained/titled a dog according to the SchH/IPO routine. They don´t know about the still common procedure, how dogs learn to retrieve ( not all of them, but I guess still more than 90 % ). That´s no fun, believe it or not, and in a lot of European countries pinch collars and "electricity" is forbidden by law ( and for quite some while there is a lot of trouble over here ).

According to the still discussed rules people will be able to title their dogs without retrieve ( they would loose 15 points on IPO1, not more ) - that´s possible, no major problem.

Maybe at that point ( 2017 ) potential buyers should start to recognize the worth of a IPO3 or FH2 titled dog, instead of buying the cheap, IPO1 titled brood bitch....

But I don´t think so.
 

It'll not only hurt the sport, but the breed will be hurt also...dogs that can't cope with being trained to down out of motion, or retrieve a dumbbell over the a frame, etc. all the sv is doing is what's logical for the generations of catered to sv dogs. The less that's required of them, the less the subsequent generations are capable of.

susie, I'm sure you will agree that if people cannot train a dog to retrieve a DB without a pinch or ecollar then I think they should find another sport.
