If your bitch does have pyo, the best scenario is that she does have a discharge indicating an "open' pyo. "Closed" pyos are the hardest to diagnose and treat successfully. I agree, it's too early to panic. A white count is in order. Most bitches with pyo stop eating, are very ill, and drink copious amounts of water.

I forgot to say that except for the discharge, she is her normal mischievous self!

Might be a vaginitis, not a serious condition. BTW, the treatment is not pleasant for the dog. Prostaglandins are used; they cause the uterus to contract expelling the infection.

Many breeders go through several dogs before they have a bitch good enough to breed. My first 2 had HD and the 3rd was epileptic.  I finally got smart and bought an adult.

I was going to say the same thing...not to sound like I'm lecturing, but puppies are not breeding prospects. Puppies are puppies that you hope might grow up well enough, but if you want to breed, you buy an adult. Hopefully you get very lucky, SS, and she will be just fine and this is a minor hurdle.Next hurdles are joints! LOL

But Blitzen, that takes away half the fun... Wink Smile

Meh, I bought adults and still got shit.  IMO it is a crapshoot either way.

Crossing my fingers for good news, Sunsilver!

I saw the adult I bought before I bought her. She was OFA'd, proven, and a CH. Not much chance of getting a loser if that's the way you do it.

I don't see how either is a crapshoot, but I don't want to derail SS's thread. If you can read pups, you can buy good pups. If you can read dogs, you can buy good dogs. Either I have abysmally low standards or I have been really lucky, I guess, because I have not yet bought a dog that I just hated once I got it. The adults I bought were as promised or better. The pups have been...pups...nice pups. 2 were rehomed for bad joints but that's no one's fault and they were great pups otherwise. Had adults of the same bloodline been available, I'd have gone that route. But they weren't so I took a chance and more worked out than not. Dogs are a lot of what you put into them and knowing what to expect.

SS, PLEASE let us know as soon as you know what's wrong w/Eska. It's always worrisome.

A friend of mine, her GSD had open pyo at 10 months old about 5/6 weeks after 1st season.  Had to be spayed. My own GSD had it at 8 years old, started off as a closed pyo but then changed to open when we were rushing her to Liverpool Small Animal Teaching Hospital. She was spayed too.

Hope you get the diagnosis you want.

Pyo can be treated successfully if  your vet knows how.
