But there are things we can do as a site and members can do. Yes, everyone should research and all but we are semi-long time dog people and when we smell shit we just know it. Others aren't as lucky as we are. I don't think regulating the ad system is what we should be doing. But I still think there are things we as a site can do to make the ads somewhat more legit. Like one would be to verify a person. To stop the long running scams and so forth. We delete some spam so spam is not a huge issue, it is just one of many issues.

Just trying to turn this into something more constructive than a rant, sometimes rants can be good but they don't accomplish much in the long term. Would love to read any constructive thoughts on this issue.

The thing with forms is they are easily filled in with bogus info. IMHO, we need a sure fire way to verify the legitimacy of an advertiser. If this ends up excluding some who don't want to be verified so be it. Chances are they are the ones most of us would like to see stop placing ads. No matter what we do by making changes some will not advertise, some of those will be good advertisers but the rest will be gone. It may be a trade off that may have to be made in the end.

How bout maybe use minimum standards as prerequisites for posting ad.

Of course we all feel our dogs are the best, as we should,

Maybe if you post an ad for top stud, proven stud, the dog being advertised must fit the criteria of the breed club for that breed, such as must be two years old, OFA'd, etc.,

Of course you can t verify every ad as soon as posted, just put disclaimer, anyone and any ad that is not conforming to breed specific standard, will be removed.

We all promote the betterment of the breed, we want the best for our dogs, and the purchasers to get what they are after, otherwise, take your ad to craigslist.

Most of people with a knowledge of the breed, already know what we want in a dog, know what lines we are looking for, and know who is trustworthy and honest.

If I were to get another working line dog, no question about it, I m going to Parrish at Spitzenhund, if I want showline, I an going to Tracey, at Bullinger Shepherds.

I think it s only right that we would assist a newbie to the breed, to get a correct, healthy German Shepherd, and help stop the scammers.

Kitkat, so that will turn this site into show dogs only, and any dog oversized gets to go to the pound.

No, I only meant that specific for someone advertising for a proven stud. You know me, I think a pet/family dog is much more valuable than a top sport dog.

Pups should be advertised just as they are, pups with potential....

I don t ever even look at the ads, but I know many do, if for no other readon to see whats out there.

I just think that those that DO know the differences, should point out wrong info. Much wrong info is just that, wrong info by someone that don t know any better, but some is just a flat out deception, posted with the hope of one of them suckers that was born at one of them minutes.

I bought a puppy from an ad on pdb last year. I'm getting the runaround for her papers. Now they want more money for the transfer. Its bs. Live and learn.

I agree with you , kitkat, dogs should be truthfully represented, but putting 'breed standard' stipulations is a recipe for disaster. Some dogs are breed worthy for what they can bring temperament wise, even if they 'do not conform to the breed standard'. According to most show dog fanciers, moderate working dogs don't conform to the breed standard, so they would be dumped.

An advertiser earlier this year was promoting their dogs as Sables, when they were

actually Black & Golds/Reds;  i know that isn't as important as hip n elbow results and

so on, but it was still an unfortunate misrepresentation.  Turned out when I asked them

that despite a large kennel and some experience of GSDs they thought the lighter  hairs

among the black / bitch stripes, etc, were 'sable' ... so I pointed out this was confusing,

sables are greys, entirely different colour from their WGSL  breed type.  They could get

responses to their ad from people looking for grey dogs, time wasted all round etc.

Suggested they attend a WL Club to see for themselves.  This (God-fearing !) couple were

rude to me.  I was trying NOT to sound a know-all - they treated me like a 'know-nothing'.

Maybe that sort of response is why folk are reluctant to challenge the weird or nonsensical

in ads ?

The way I see it is people are searching for the magic words they think will sell a dog or puppy. The scammers do it by saying pregnant female already bred 1500.00 to 2500.00 because they know that those looking to make a few $$$ will be interested right away. Really no matter the type there will be someone out there who is interested.

I do not want to get into approving and editing ads.

Why don´t you at least post the WUSV, FCI, and AKC breeding rules as a sticker on top of all the German Shepherd ads?
Maybe a sticker with the websites of the most common breed clubs of the main countries, too?
Just a guess

( I still believe in a form seller need to fill out. Sure they still are able to cheat, but several may have difficulties to lie that obviously - I would only ask for the proofable stuff ).
