when I go check out some of the facebook German Shepherd groups, I am totally dumb founded by some of the "facts" that one moron is trying to educate another moron about.

The sad pathetic truth is that your average person loooking for a dog is totally at a loss of knowledge that we all take for granted.

I have people ask me the dumbest questions sometimes that it really makes you wonder, can this person really be so 'dumb'

    But, when it comes to buying and selling dogs, I hold the breeder/seller to a much hiigher standard;

If you have to hide the facts behind deception, you have no business,

in the business,

and, if you think that dogs could or should just be passeed around from one buyer to the next, because you lied, he lied, she lied, you have no business in the business

Odd way of saying it, kitkat, but I do agree with you. Especially that last sentence.

susie, the trouble is that there's precious little that's really, thoroughly, 100% 'provable' over the 'Net stuff--but heck, if a person wants to scam someone badly enough, they can create 'proof' that will fool a newbie in person.

With the international marketing via the Web, it's really a complete leap of faith to buy a dog that you've never seen in the flesh, from people you've also never met and in some instances haven't even spoken to directly due to a language barrier [the real thing, or convenient one]; it's actually a nod to basic human decency that there aren't MORE reports of deals gone bad or complete scams, when you really think about it.

That doesn't make the ones that DO happen any less infuriating, especially when you're the person it happens to...

Mostly sellers don´t lie, they just "forget to mention"...

Let´s think about an advertisement of an adult dog -

no x-rays mentioned in the ad -
now there are two possibilities

1. The seller didn´t mention the results
2. The dog wasn´t x-rayed ( worse: the dog was x-rayed, but failed )

In case of 1. no problem, no harm - he´ll talk about the results later on

In case of 2. we have a problem - the seller knows there are buyers who don´t know about x-rays, they won´t ask. The seller doesn´t even need to lie...
or-
as soon as there is a potential buyer asking about the x-rays the seller now has the opportunity to explain why the dog wasn´t x-rayed ( I like: The parents are HD free, I didn´t need to x-ray in this case ...) But all of this happens private, without witnesses. Difficult on court in case there are problems.

As soon as sellers are forced to fill out basic forms, they can´t "forget" missing stuff any longer.

I think the biggest issue with web ads today is that the seller/scammer remains fairly anonymous and will not be held fully accountable.

Back in the days before the web, if you wanted a european dog you would contact a person like myself to act in your benefit. I would make sure you'll get what you want and paid for. My honor and reputation was at risk, aswel as the breeders  i worked with. Word got arround quickly in those days and you will lose all credibility. It would take quite an effort to restore your name.

I have seen many scam alert threads, yet i can't remember any detail. At the end the sellers liability remains unchallenged while the buyer pics up the pieces.

IMO the best way is to keep on educating, the more knowlegde a newbe has the less likely he/she will fall into a trap.

I want to try and stop it at the source. Education is great and all but lets face it people go to school for years and still don't get educated. Some people just never learn.

Quit buying from the internet, you need hands on only unless you know the breeder(s) very well.  Nan

I NEED HELP PLEASE!! I am Ashamed and Embarassed To Admit To The Fact, I was a Newbie and Being a Naive Buyer!   I Have Handled Dogs For a Long Time , But Had Never Really owned a Fully Trained Dog , Just worked With Them For Many Years. I Bought a Male Dog That I Saw On The Internet and Thought , Ok, I Have Saved and Will Buy This Dog.  I Had Pictures and Lots of Info On The Dog and Traveled To a Different State than I live in To Get Him.  Just Before Leaving To Go We Had a Major Family Issue Come up , But I Traveled To Get The Dog anyway.   When I Got To The Kennel, I was Put With Several Dogs To make Sure I Could handle The Dog I Bought as He was Such a Serious Dog , I was Told.  My Mind Was On The Situation at Home and When My Dog was Brought out , I Noticed a Difference in The Pictures I was Provided and This Dog I Paid $42,000 For.  I was Told He Had Lst Weight Being Trained So Hard Before I Got There and Was Kicking His Coat.  I was Still Focussed On Getting Back Home and Bought The Story and Left and Came Home. I was Told It Woukd Be 2 To 3 Months Before I Could Get The Paperwork.  I Still Don't Have it a Year Later and Went to a Lot of Trouble To Confirm That The Dog I Bought was Not The Dog I Had Purchased In any Of The Pictures. In Addition To That , I was Sold a Pedigree That Listed a Fake AKC Number and Have Never Been able To verify The Pedigree Anywhere In The U.S. or Germany Where The Pedigree " Came From"?? !!!!   The Breeder Showed The Dog I Bought in The Pictures as a Sold Dog On His Site BUT With My Dogs SUPPOSED Name ATTACHED TO IT, But , They Showed The Dogs Picture I was Sent That I was Buying!!   It's Been a Year Now and I Still have No Papers and Breed My Dog and Now The Owner of The Female is Threatening To Sue Me as His Puppies are Unregisterable , Because , I Have Nothing But The Sales Papers, THE Fake Pedigree I WAS GIVEN, WITH My Dog Showing a Fake AKC NUMBER , and The Breeder is Still Blaming Slowness of All The Associations For The Slow Paperwork. In addition That I DONT HAVE THE DOG I WAS SOLD AND SENT PUCTURES OF.   I love The Dog Now , And He was NEVER A $42,000 Dog , But My Family Issues , Got The Best of Me and Time Moved Quickly and I Wanted To get All My Facts Straight Before I Mistakenly accused Someone of Scamming Me With a Different Dog , AND That Is Not The Dog in My Pictures, That I Bought Or The Correct  Dog in The Pedigree I was Given by The Breeder, As After Spending a lot Of Money To Verify and Many Letters , Emails and Calls To be 100% Sure , I now am, There was A Switch, A Created Pedigree That is On Line and Everything Lines Up in It But The Dog I Have Now is In The Pedogree Picture , But is Only Shown There and Cannot Be Found By Any Association or List. So, I Have A Different Dog Than What I had been Shown and Told I Bought From The Breeder , I Have No Papers as After a Year, and All I have Researched There Can Never Be Any TRUE PAPERS and I Have A Lawsuit on My Hands as I Breed My Dog and My Dog IS NOT THE DOG HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE AND NOT THE DOG I BOUGHT IN TJE PICTURES I WAS SENT I HAD BOUGHT. How Could I Have Left with a Different Dog?  I was Given Paperwork,Needed To Get Home, Was Given a Line about Weight and Color and I Wanted To Believe These Sellers as They Seemed So Sincere Until The Sale Was Made and Now are Impossible To Get a Hold of !  Amazingly , is All I Did For This Seller/ Breeder and It Is A Well Known Kennel and a Major Player on Many Websites and Has Many Big Named Dogs In Breeding Line, Is a Member Of All Associations , Approved By Many Well Known Federal and State Site and Has Well Known Dogs With Kennels Name In Dogs Name , Yet This Famous Dog Breeder and Kennel Stuck it To me and They Are a Major Breeder , Who Now Have Me In a Lot of Trouble and I was Diligent, But So Wanted To Believe The Best In This Seller , I Exhausted a lot of Time and Money to Try To be Wrong, But I wasn't and Whoever Said You Can Fake Pedigree on This Thread Earlier , Can Ask Me , I Can Show you a Major Flaw in The Whole System and How To Be Naive, Trusting and Even Do Some Major Help For This Seller To me Free and The  Seller Who is Well Known Has Me in A Bad Place and a Dog That Cost me a Fortune and is Fixing To Cost me another One as I Studded a Dog Who is Not Who He's Supposed To Be AFTER MORE FAKE PAPERWORK WAS SENT ME BY THE SELLER AND I WAS ASSURED THE REAL PAPERWORK WOULD BE HERE AND THE DOG WAS GENUINE !!!! THE SAD THING HERE , Is I'm Not Even Sharing here The Worst Stuff The Seller has Pulled on Me and While I was Trying So hard To believe in The Selker and Doing Everything Possible To prove my

Seller Truthful, in The Meantime , I HAD AN EVEN WORSE TRICK PULLED ON ME BY THE SELLER , THAT WILL NOW COST ME A LOT OF MONEY TOO, FOR BEING HONEST AND TRUTHFUL AND SELLER HANGING ME OUT TO DRY, While I was Trying To help The Seller Who Seems To have Faked a Lot!! ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN TELLING ME I'M THE STUPIDEST MAN ON EARTH?  I'm really Not... I Was Trying To Help My Family and Believe in Seller Who Claimed To Be One Thing and Still Does and is Another and I Spent Every Ave Trying To Believe For The Best , And Now I REALLY HAVE PROBLEMS!!!  Is There any Regulation in The Industry?  Can Anyone offer ANY HELP OR IDEAS TO a Sincere Man , But, IS Truly a MUCH BIGGER Fool THAN ANYTHING !!!?

Why did you think any dog is worth $42,000 ? If a person could afford 42 grand for a dog, they can afford a good lawyer.

" That Listed a Fake AKC Number and Have Never Been able To verify The Pedigree Anywhere In The U.S. or Germany Where The Pedigree " Came From"?? !!!!  "

Not going to argue about sense or nonsense of your post - in case it´s a German dog contact SV in Germany and ask for help ( original pedigrees, owners, DNA ).
