And by the way, it is most certainly ok that you feel this, like every other police incident, is a bad cop and excessive force, etc, etc.
Just get all the facts straight, I would be curious to see where you get all of your statistics. Bad cop or not, facts should be straight.

At the end of the video one cops says I had to look away and then he says oh my God and points to the K9 cops body cam .. they were happy and taking personal photos with their phones until they realized the idiot K9 handler was wearing a body cam and then they knew the truth was going to come out and they were in trouble. Don't worry the cops will investigate themselves and find themselves innocent. Excessive use of force in sending the dog and double excessive for sending the dog two more times on an injured and down suspect while being cuffed and after he was cuffed. Chewing people up for fun and scrap book photos is not going to cut it .. it costs money for medical and legal settlements and when the cops hurt or kill someone without reason the public pays one way or another.

BooBoo until you have been inside a building containing burglary suspects in hiding clearing it with your K-9 in total darkness as not to give away your or your back ups location and your dog makes contact with the perp and bites whatever part of the body that is accessible to save your ass because he has just been struck with a piece of pipe, then don't talk trash about stuff you know nothing about.
Has your dog ever tracked up to a suspect in deep wooded area in pitch dark waiting in ambush and grabbed what was closest to get while the perp attempts to fire a gun at the both of you. I have and could give you a lot more such examples.
Has your dog grabbed whatever part of the body was available while you are rolling on the ground fighting trying to stop the perp from trying to remove your gun from your holster?
Has your Police K-9 if you are one ever bitten a suspect/ If not then you would know unlike training when told to stop people being bitten rarely comply with orders to cease moving which means the dog will become more excited and want to hold on more.
My dog teams always out the first time in training as it is a requirement for certification. In the real world with perps kicking them, resisting arrest they soon learn to hold on and most times release only after repeated commands to release not because they are not well trained because for the most part the actions of the perp.
You know nothing about police death stats, if you did you wouldn't make such ignorant remarks about L/E line of deaths. I have lost 3 friends in the line of duty over 39 years, "ALL" were killed by an individual, not a heart attack or being struck by a car.
I will not stoop to your level of ignorance but there is a name for people with your mentality just use your imagination.

Just in terms of the use of  'trained' dogs for LE work at all,

I think I'd like to know why a dog who disregards 4 (or 5) commands

to Out, and then is 'allowed' to join in tugging on other bits of

the suspect while the 3 Officers get in each others' way trying to

put the cuffs on, was on active operational duty, and not back

at the Training School ?   Do LE  Malis these days not get taught

to do a Down Stay, or to OBEY their handlers ?  Bit worrying for

all sorts of reasons.

BTW I knew a "crotch-grabber" dog once, too, but he was a GSD so

its not an exclusive Mali trait !

It seems the cops don't know what is killing them .. part of their culture .. data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund .. presumably cops know who dies from what but that is of course the "official" cause of death so perhaps the numbers have been massaged like some of those reports about "justified" shootings when there is no video record.

http://www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fatalities-data/causes.html

Preliminary 2015 Law Enforcement Officer Fatalities

January 1 through August 7, 2015 vs. January 1 through August 7, 2014

  2015 2014 % Change
Total Fatalities 73 68 +7%
Firearms-related 21 28 -25%
Traffic-related 34 26 +31%
Other Causes 18 14 +29%

by hntrjmpr434 on 08 August 2015 - 13:08

Oh because statistics show that traffic related deaths are the leading cause of death, I'm supposed to disregard the possibility of myself being killed by a firearm?
I'm headed to the academy in about a month, would you like to be our instructor? You seem to know a lot about LE without any experience or correct facts.
You have a bad habit of conjuring up incorrect and irrelevant information, and then beating around the bush when called out on it.

hntrjmpr4 ... My data came from the police website National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Let's hope you can at least read and don't believe that the fat cops on "cops" really can chase down the 20 year old suspects on foot .. that is just on TV. Let's hope you learn to become a professional police officer and not a "cowboy" like many are. There is just a huge amount of BS around law enforcement and how dangerous it is.  From foot pursuit to those stupid high speed car chase events in popular culture movies and TV. By the way I worked in Agriculture for many years which is much more dangerous than law enforcement. In the US alone over 100 people age 20 or less are killed each year due to injuries on farms. Many more farmers are killed in the "line of duty" than law enforcement workers. Police work is one of the few professions where a person choking to death on a jelly do-nut or falling asleep and driving into a tree is reported as a line of duty death if on the clock when it happens. Over 5000 citizens have been killed since 1979 due to high speed police pursuits and many tens of thousands injured. Over 90% of those pursuits were for non-violent or minor traffic infractions. When police do stupid things the public pays .. all those killed and injured due to needless high speed pursuits had hospital bills, funerals, and disabilities. We need a smarter and more professional police force that does not use deadly force and thuggery to assert influence and control. The OP was about a K9 handler using his poorly trained dog to needlessly injure and maim a suspect .. the suspect will need huge medical expenditures for all of the bite wounds he received and society in one way or the other will pay for that K9 officers poor judgement and skills.

You are a real joke man. Agriculture more dangerous, Ha!! A school crossing guard has a more dangerous job than that. Sounds like carelessness to me. Maybe you could learn from us on how to survive the streets on a daily basis it might help you in your profession.

by vk4gsd on 09 August 2015 - 02:08

Deac, tbh agriculture is a source of large scale injury and death world wide. Carelessness or not.
