I would like to see current pics of the VAs too. Looking at them now, what a wide, strange array of conformation. Video would be better though - some of the pics are photoshopped.

I went to Ecuador with a female dog to mate her with Arre. The dog didn't even try and that happened to others that had gone to Ecuador also from different countries. I heard lots of people were complaining. The owner kept on making excuses about it but not seeing him in Germany this year proved something is wrong with him. About the training, they have pretty decent trainers and the space to do a great job as this year they competed with Luther di casa Caputi, very interesting dog. I don't know if you have seen this dog in person (Arre) but he's too large and it's really obvious how he's been given stuff through the growing. Maybe too many steroids affected his mating desire.

by Blitzen on 09 September 2015 - 12:09

Not the first time I've heard the suggestion that these big headed, over done, massive males were administered anabolic steroids. And yes, that could have a detrimental effect on their libido. It is just not the correct type for a working dog - Akita like heads with too much stop, round eyes, hanging lips, short legs,  thick bodies. Too too much.....IMO the desire for the masculine look has been taken way too far in too many males. The females remain uneffected. Ever wonder why? Soon the bar will need to be lowered even more so the males can achieve an IPO while the females will dominate the protection scene too.

[Likes Blitzen's post]

Louis Donald was really unimpressed with this year's lineup, too. Too many big dogs, and no one without connections to the SV elite placed in the top ranks. It's really discouraging your average joe from even thinking of showing.

BTW, my friend owns a Geck di Casa Nobili son. Geck passed away yesterday...age 8!  Supposedly a heart attack...

by Blitzen on 09 September 2015 - 14:09

I think a "heart attack" would be a rare killer of an 8 year old dog, any dog actually, unless the dog has some sort of defect or other health issue. Sad news.....he should have had at least 3 more good years.

There are many younger dogs that passed away like Zamp,Nero, and many more i just forgot their names. Why they die,why they don't want to breed? This question is to German breeders. That's I would stay away from the VA dogs,is plenty of quality and not on steroids dogs on farther placed positions which give you better and healthier offspring. The placement at the show means nothing to me,this is not because I am arrogant or disrespectful,no I would breed to the dog which I like and I think will complement my female and improve the quality of puppies. Those VA dogs have in their lifetime hundreds of breedings, they are bred to some of the best females, some of them produce over 1,000.00 puppies over that time. How many good one ,some probably will do better than others ,but how many produce only few or non,I think majority of them.I bred to quite few VA dogs in my life, but I also bred to few dogs which only placed at the tale of first ring,or in second ring, but those dogs have much better temperament and that was my main reason i bred to them,.Guess which puppies came better,to me the one from those lower placed dogs. Those dogs are no worse than those highly placed dogs, most of them are very closely related to those VA dogs, the reason for placing them lower was politics, lack of knowing the right people, not enough campaigning those dogs before the Sieger Show which cost lots of time, and most of all money, and not everybody has the resources to do it.I learn my lesson and to me VA line up at the Sieger Show is not important any more.To me,temperament is must,if the dog has weak temperament, bite work is s.[.he might be the most beautiful dog in the world, but I don't want him and I don't want anything from him.Sounds crazy but that's how I feel.
