I feel for both parties and the real shame is that this ended up being aired on the net when it should have been taken care of privately. Now we have an excellent breeder and a great dog owner being maligned for actions that had no intent of malice. This is not the correct forum for these types of arguments.....keep it private and settle it privately.

I agree Blitzen. I waited 4 days before posting my response hoping that the original post would die a natural death. When it didn't I felt I should share my side since my reputation was was being disparaged.

Yes far best to settle privately if at all possible, is it possible only to refund the purchase price of pup no tacked on vet bills and each party be semi content and part ways peacefully and call it a day ?

Just reading through and thought I saw a bit of irony in the original poster's comments. Right away referred to the breeder whom I don't know as a back yard breeder. In my opinion that is a strong statement to say to someone and when you research her dogs seems rather unmerited. But then the original poster said the reason for them doing OFA was because different people who had stud dogs required it before they would let their dog be used as a stud. ??? So were they planning on breeding an unproved dog in either the ring or health testing? What do they think a back yard breeder is? HMMMMM interesting. time for me to slip back into the shadows.

You all have a good day

IT was settled by the breeder very plainly.
. He signed a contract and did so as an adult .
After threats were made at the first puppy was found to have HD.

The original poster told the breeder he was gonna ruin her reputation and put her up all over the internet or media.
NO breeder would agree to have any further contact with that kind of person

THE contract was drawn up by an attorney and signed legally
The poster of this thread made it a public matter on purpose.
This breeder does not need a bunch of us telling her how to run her business after 30 plus years of doing so and dealing with many people including those who want to bully and go deliberately on a International forum and told her he was gonna do just that.
Poster said he bought as german shepherd to breed to show his children about natures birth.
END of subject
Time to let this die
A person who conducts himself in a way to cause harm is not gonna get any kind accommendation .

The breeder has made it clear.. IT is over.

Now I remember why I stopped breeding dogs.

Well, instead of ruining the breeder's reputation, all the OP has managed to do is illustrate how lacking in knowledge of the breed, and of breeding and genetics in general, HE is--and yet he was still going to breed his present female despite that lack of knowledge on all of those subject. So he's an attorney with the IRS--that amounts to as much as having stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, when it comes to the topic of dog breeding, and modes of heritance for various things that occur in all living things or being able to research the bloodlines before deciding to do a particular pairing of parent dogs.

Von Vollkommen acted honorably in the situation, and people do recognize a witch-hunt when they see one...and that's what I suspected this to be from the start. I do feel badly for all parties involved--and most especially for the affected dogs living and passed--but it still comes down to this: If the OP wants to be able to buy a puppy and NEVER have to worry that said pup will develop dysplasia during the maturation process, then they need to leave this breed behind and select one where HD is not a known factor to be considered.

I never made any threats - just stated facts. We wanted a male out of chica because she is an incredible dog. First negative post I've ever made about anything/product. My first German shepherd was a female that just showed up on our farm and second a male purchased from OK family out of Ardmore - both lived past 11 years old with no health problems whatsoever. Maybe too much inline breeding is the problem and backyard breeding is the way to go. I obviously hit a nerve with a lot of kennels that want a free pass on replacement pups. I also believe HD is much more common than breeders care to acknowledge. Now I know! Adios amigos

Larry, yet again you show a lack of knowledge, just as Hexe described.
Linebreeding is NOT a cause of HD, in fact it is far more likely to be
the solution to that problem. This is very well documented in literature
on the GSD breed. BYBreeding on the other hand just continues to spread
HD throughout the gene pool.
Unfortunately line breeding carries other dangers with it, so it cannot be
used as a 'cure' - do a little reading on basic genetics and you'll 'get it' !

Reggie - well observed ! (as so often the case).

Reggie, never claimed to be an expert, in fact that's why I decided to look at professional breeders. I just loved the German shepherd's temperament, brains and stately appearance, especially the black red ones. I speak only from experience- two health free dogs from the nefarious back yard breeders and two genetically defective pups from Vollkommen kennel. And apparently the HD problem is so common that only the most reputable kennels fully guarantee their pups. I have also been told by some kennels that very few people understand the nuances of inline breeding and the problems it can cause. So surely you see where I'm coming from.
