I disagree about making a blanket statement about the breed. From what I am seeing you do have alot of bad GSd's being produced but we are seeing good serious breeders producing very high quality litters. You just need to know who to buy from.

dawgma, best laugh in days, thank you!!!!!!!!!!

dawgma: you made me laugh and that is not easy these days :) Abhay: As one who has had both Pits and GSD's, and many other dogs to boot, there is no way that a GSD can take a Pitt Bull, in a fight. It may be able to outrun it, but even that is probably not going to happen. The only chance the shepherd would have is if it found a high fence and cleared it before he got got, or if he borrowed my 9mm. Okay, there is one other possibility. The GSD may have had formal training in kickboxing :) Just fooling with ya Abhay. Seriously though, once while working as a rookie cop, we had a prisoner who was known as a very dangerous martial artist and he refused to come out of his open cell to get transferred to another facility. He stood on top of his metal bed and dared us to come in and get him. I was all for going in to get him, being all macho and stuff (with some buddies of course:), but my Sergeant said no, and he went back to his office and came back with his 9mm and told the guy to come out and put his hands behind his back or he was going to have one bad knee. The guy came out with no problems.

actually I think anyone who intentionally fights dogs is a disgusting human being. Not saying anyone on this board is doing so but if they do then I am talking about you.

have to agree with do right about the pit vs gsd fight. not talking about any pit I'm talking the pits that have been selected for dog fighting. i have a friend that use to fight pits and some of the dogs they fight are freaks when it comes to dog fighting. these dogs are monsters when it comes to fighting they have been bred generation after generation after generation to do nothing but fight dogs and their very good at it. do agree with abhay about the pathetic general state of the gsd in regards to health. a closed gene pole is the death of a breed.

Abhay. Okay. Just so you know. I am famaliar with fighting dogs also. I still TOTALLY disagree with you about, even a "slick" GSD (whatever that means), holding its own with a real Pitt Bull (not one of those "looks like a Pitt Bull so that is what we will call it"). The shepherd would not have a chance. By the way. I had "Red Nose" Pitts. Did I pass your test? You take this stuff way too serious. By the way, once I trapped a racoon on my back enclosed porch, who was always raiding my garbage cans on the porch. I had this bright idea that I would let my rescue, half GSD and half Rottweiller (I think), go out there and "give it what for". Well, that racoon beat the crap out of my dog, and tore up my porch. My dog was all game to get out there and get that coon but he was crying for help in about one minute. That dog had been in several dog fights and always came out on top. This was in 1976 and he was allowed free roam of the neighborhood. I was a young Marine then and stupid. I would not do that again. Too many deseases in racoons, and I baby my shepherds now. You should see them in their cute little pink booties at Easter time :) P.S. I boxed in the military (I wasn't real good. Had sort of a glass jaw, if you know what that means:)and once had a real fight with a fellow who stated he was the kickboxing champion of Pennsylvania at the time (we were both in the Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa), and I kicked (pun intended) his butt. No brag. Just fact.
