No, I got out of dogs because of what I have witnessed on the internet. For me, in this position, I needed to just get out. All it would take is for me to make one mistake and there would be a lot written and it just might not be what is really important in life. Loving and taking care of what is near and dear. Don't get me wrong, I will always own shepherds as long as I am alive and capable to take care of them. But to breed or work dogs - no thanks.

All I am saying to you guys is life is about choices - you can't make my choices and you can't continue to try and shame and put down the people, their dogs,  who post here. Shaming, calling out and putting down has to stop - there are better ways to teach what you are trying to teach - shame and all don't work. There has to be a better way.

Ah Haz, you really just "don't get it", do you ? I was TRYING to show you what
it feels like to be a recipient of YOUR wisdom.

Hund, 'Ah Haz, you really just "don't get it", do you ? I was TRYING to show you what
it feels like to be a recipient of YOUR wisdom.'

But hund, the abusers do typically become whiney 'victims' of their subjects...this reminds me of Dwight in the movie in 'This Boy's Life'.

Although Haz is right about "working abilities" he was out of the discussion for me when he said a "show" judge gave a "trial"rating to a 9 years old female ( that´s simply impossible ) and when he said WLs should be bred without former show rating.
I am a firm believer in testing working abilities in working dogs, but I am a firm believer in a standard of a breed, too ( a G rated dog does fit into the standard - for less you need a German Shepherd with sloppy ears, missing testicles, or looking like a Hyena ).
Haz, there are no vids of at 98% of the total amount of German Shepherds out there. Vids are made for marketing, not for proof ( either sale or stud ).

How can a non-native English speaker say this in one line, what I have been trying to say for pages? LOL- well put Susie, very well said.

Here, Kurt. I made it active. That's my boy! (Bat, not you, my friend...)

They are absolute twins, he and Baylei. Movement, sound, mannerisms, explosive bark...uncanny resemblance.

Personally if I quit working dogs everytime somone on the internet or in real life was mean to me I would have quit a hundered times by now.

Ah Haz, you really just "don't get it", do you ? I was TRYING to show you what it feels like to be a recipient of YOUR wisdom.

No you dont get it.  Show me one time I have run down someone for posting a training video of a dog that was not for breeding or touted as something special.  Show me or be quiet.

Abuser Joan?  Somone is being dramatic..lol.

Susie the judge is a show judge.  He was brought in primarily for the dog show, yes he is able to judge working trials like many are but he is not a competitor or handler at any level.  So I call him and others like him a show judge.  They do not have the ability to properly read a dog in the work so everything is "pronounced".  When you show under a working judge you deal with a much sharper pencil.  I would assume 98% of GSDs are not for breeding.  Videos are most certainly documentary evidence of claims made in print. Most active trialing and breeding dogs have video. If you know what to look for it can remove much of the guess work.

Personally I just cant bring myself to be kind to those who breed these dogs without proper testing and background in working them, nor do I easily tolerate those who spread misinformation based on nothing more then what someone told them or what they read somewhere on the net.

Thats why I always ask for proof when someone says something that runs contrary to my understanding, if I can see someone working a dog and see the dog working I have a much better idea where the things they say come from.  So sorry not buying the no video argument.

Have seen and experienced to much heartbreak with dogs produced by people who dont know what they are doing breeding sub standard stock.  We should all be extremely critical of dogs used for breeding.

The video of the puppy looks ok, shows good intensity and decent grips. No obvious red flags but then again that is not enough to say anything about the stud.  Seeing video of the sire working in all three phases would be much better.

If you have had that much heartbreak with dogs, how do you know it's the dogs' fault and not yours? (Rhetorical...just trying to spark some thought). What's the common denominator when someone washes dog after dog after dog? If it's truly the dogs' quality that isn't up to par, time and time again, then maybe their evaluations skills aren't as sharp as they may think, and if it's not the dogs' quality, then it's the training. Either way, some responsibility must lie with the trainer/owner/handler when washing a dog out, because either it's been misjudged in the beginning or something happened along the way to quell some potential. Either of those are human follies. Watching videos all day long won't tell me as much as 1/2 an hour with the dog in the flesh. Maybe I possess some magical powers, but I don't think so.Wink Smile
