I'm getting hate mail in various forms (email, PM, comments on dog) because I have "locked" a dog that does not belong to me. Could an admin make a post or post a link to the old explanations about what happened after the hacker incident as far as peds being locked?

I have never had anything to do with this dog- must've just added something to her or had to add her to complete another ped. and the owner of the dog is all P.O'd at me, telling me I have no right, yada yada yada. Don't really need the headache, lol.

Thanks!

You know, it's kind of irritating, especially since right at the button you hit to "edit" it states: "Due to multiple members defacing pedigrees we now have to lock the pedigrees in and only allow moderators and those that created them to edit.
We are working on a system where multiple users can have access to a single pedigree. We will also be enabling moderators to change ownership of a pedigree"

Soooo. obviously I created it (I think someone asked me to add an offspring and the dam wasn't listed yet) and therefore am not guilty of "removing the picture" as I was accused of. She was never even listed before...I didn't remove squat. I entered the dog in the first place.

I will never understand people who charge in, guns a'blazin', without even the most basic of facts. :/

What we need is a submission form to notify admins if any changes need to be made in a ped that the person who notifies doesn't 'own'. Even better, a way for ped 'owners' to transfer 'ownership' directly w/out admin involvement. These were announced as in the make last May when the peds had to be locked but these features haven't come yet.

Only Oli can do that, and if you want it, you can let him know.

And maybe it'd help to abandon the word "owner" for pedigrees as it seems to be a trigger for those so inclined to unleash whatever anger they harbor.

To transfer ownership now, you still need to contact GSD Admin who is in charge of the transfers.

LIVING FENCE,
A person does not have to contact Admin to transfer a dog (as far I know).. for example with my dog Aida vom Dukenheim.. when you click on a dog and then click on "edit Aida vom Dukenheim" I can transfer pedigree ownership to someone else.
I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like I can do.

Jyl, Yes, it looks like it, but right now unfortunately only admins can use this function. Try it!

I just tried it again as a user for a pedigree I 'own' as a user, and nope, I couldn't even type a name in the box for the user I'd have transferred the ped to.

I can understand that a dog owner who looks up the pedigree of her/his dog and reads the message "Sorry, this dog is locked by its owner: Living Fence (admin)" is not happy. No excuse though whatsoever for the rage that consumes some users when they see it, and that they direct at the person who, like Jenni, happened to create the entry as part of a pedigree and would be happy to pass 'ownership'. And who did not lock it as the current text implies.

As a user, this is the message I get when I click on "edit" on a pedigree I don't 'own': An image

If it were worded:

"Sorry, all pedigrees had to be locked due to multiple members defacing pedigrees. Only admins and the current 'owner' of a pedigree entry can edit it. Ownership of a pedigree entry does not imply ownership of a dog. If you wish to get ownership of this pedigree entry, please contact both GSD Admin and the current owner of this pedigree entry, xyz."

it would explain the why and how, and put users in a better position.

Some will still send inappropriate messages, some always do.

Living Fence,
Thanks for explaining. I never clicked on the link. Just noticed it was on a dogs pedigree page.

GSD,
Thanks for taking care of that.

I just hope that people will be more civil to each other.. I wish more people would sit back and THINK before they spoke or wrote.

I am not going to touch how a member can transfer a pedigree, I believe it can be done but I just as soon not open up that can of worms.

There was supposed to be multiple enhancements made to this system. But life happens and Oli got busy in some other aspects of life that took him away from PDB for awhile, it happens. He has made some changes recently to stop the spammer and has also did some programming to allow us to assign whole breeds to certain members. In saying that you must be a member here for a long time who has added a lot of pedigrees, modified a lot of pedigrees and you must be in good standing to be assigned a whole breed. We will be very picky about who gets whole breed status, for very good reasons we will limit those privileges to a select few members. So, if anyone is interested, let me know.

As I said when this was originally rolled out, this would be a work in progress. The progress has been slow but we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. I am still trying to get programming to allow a few members to be pedigree admin as a few expressed interest when originally announced.

For a few select members - if some of you would just read, search or follow directions you wouldn't get upset when you don't understand what is happening. I have had PM after PM with members going off because someone owns their pedigree. And a lot of times when I go to do the transfer it was Oli owning the damn thing. Oli owns all the pedigrees here because he owns the site. Most members were very respectful and very nice and I do appreciate it even when I was working 12s for weeks and not being able to get to them very fast.

So, if anyone needs a transfer please hold off for a few days and hopefully Oli will be able to find the time to implement the new system.

And Jen I am sorry you have had to deal with this but just tell them to contact me directly and let me deal with it.

I guess this is still on topic, but I added a comment to the pedigree of "Brilla in Regnum Marianum" about her hips being rated fair since I couldn't edit the pedigree myself.
