Wolf

...to be posting all of those fake dogs, or rather, dogs with fake titles, in the database, would you please either explain your actions or cease them. You are doing nothing but contaminating a very good pedigree system and tainting it's credibility for all of the other users. And you are showing a total lack of respect for all the work that goes into keeping the database legitimate. I am referring to some of the recent "VA" dogs that have been entered, with impossible pedigrees and unheard of titles, by someone who has chosen to abuse the system.

Can you name those dogs Wolf so we can expose or clarify some titles that you may question as fake? Roger

Absolutely Roger. I would love some clarification. VA Lucille Vom Hanster (who appears, in the picture, to be AKC bred - and was born before her sire, and who's dam was 11) V Dolley Vom Haus (SchH4?) VA Zenso vom Haus VA Alex Vom Parriot VA Olly vom parriot (born the same year as her dam? - birdy also commented on this one) And a few I have probably missed. I did do a preliminary search for these dogs, on the 'net at least, and could turn up nothing, which leads me to suspect that the information is false.

It's REALLY sad people would do this. There are many GSD lovers who use this site to research their dog's pedigree. That's all they/we need is for losers to do this! Brandi

Oli will be so PO'd to hear this!!!

by Doreen329 on 02 December 2003 - 07:12

I am really dissapointed! You know, I am new to the GSD world and I rely on alot of the information I see. I am glad I am not too gullible becasue once I see a dog I liek I DO research on the dog. But still, that is a pure LACK of RESPECT for the people who put their hearts into their dogs. Doreen

"There are many GSD lovers who use this site to research their dog's pedigree. That's all they/we need is for losers to do this!" Certainly, anyone has nothing better to do with his/her time than to make fictitious entries into the database is a very small person with a pathetic life but let's think this through before we go spend much time and emotion on it... By themselves, these entries are little more than wasted disk space. In the overall scheme of things, the amount of disk space occupied by a single entry in most any database or even lots of entries is much less than that occupied by the operating system running on the servers and the software used to manage, search and present the data, support the communications, etc. As such, it doesn't affect performance so it doesn't represent a significant issue from a systems point of view. But what about those people who want to research their dog's pedigree? Well, I can state with absolute certainty that none of these dogs is anywhere in any pedigree of mine...anyone else? The only real issue of corruption in the database, then, is that of researching pedigrees maybe for a breeding where a user wants to really look at the progeny and or siblings of a particular dog. Most of these entries are so ludicrous that it is obvious that they are fake...any that even appear remotely authentic lose all value in research when the registration numbers don't match any on record or when the ability to look up ZW numbers or OFA registrations prove fruitless. Ultimately, they are little more than a childish nuisance, most of which could be eliminated with a couple of fairly straightforward programs that checked for reasonability in the data. I'm sure that if the issue becomes widespread, Oli will institute more safeguards in the data entry process. In fact, now that the problem has presented itself, I'd bet he's already thinking about it since he plans to have sister sites for other breeds and the same issue will eventually affect them as well. What we really have then is someone who is expending more effort in a pathetic attempt to get attention than they will ultimately cost anyone else using the site; the eventual result being their service being terminated by their service provider. I say let them have their fun...it could be worse...if it weren't for this, they might be reproducing. :o) Keith skyd1ve@hotmail.com

Perhaps having Oli "approve" the registration prior to the acceptance would help to alleviate the problem. Wolf, thank you for your keen sight to spot these. I have always use this site as my bible for the GSD, and assumed that all information presented herein are truth. While Wolf pointed out the blatantly obvious ones, it is more worrying for the other fake information crafted by the more cunning cheaters goes undetected. Wen

Maybe the person posting thinks that VA means Champion or something simple. MAYBE they bought a dog with the pedigree outlined and they are posting what they THINK is their dogs pedigree. It is very common for people to "hang" titles and show ratings when they generate their own pedigrees to make their own dogs look better, it was done to me and there is no easy way to verify you are being lied to.

Check out SC Guindy vom Haus, SH43, OFA-good. I'm disappointed--9 wks and no progeny listed???
