Well, I must admit I've always been fond of the color green... as well as the color purple. ~Deb

Like I said, I'm waiting for green. I think if I had a purple dog, the guys at dance class would think I'm funny. and not haha funny

Since a white shepherd is not considered the correct pigment by AKC standards and can not be shown in AKC, does anyone know if the other colors would be able to be shown in AKC? Just a thought.

First of all, we should really step back and think about throwing these two together again or even whether either the male or the female should be bred. I'm not a racist. I think blues, whites and sables can all get along. I just wish we would stick to a standard. It wouldn't hurt the breed.

here's some links for the white shepherd in Europe: www.vom-haus-waldeck.de/ www.weisser-schweizer-schaeferhund-von-tirol.de/ www.smooth-white.com/ www.kennel-of-country-roads.de/ Once again, I believe they are usually treated as a seperate breed. The only color the AKC lists as disqualifing for GSD's is white.

Thank you. That was my point that they are not considered GERMAN shepherds.

Good point bsceltic, I'm partial to sables and all blacks.

White are DQ'd in the AKC ring. Blues, livers, and washed out colors are to be severely penalized. I doubt that you would see many blues or livers in the AKC ring.

Back in the 80's everyone thought feeding carrots would make your dog grow red hair. I took a short cut after the winter break, not having bought into the carrot thing: applied Roux "temporary" hair color to my 100 lb. sable male the day before the first training session of the year. OOPS! :-O Must have gotten a mis-marked bottle. He was more "rasberry" colored than "carrot." I scrubbed that dog with dish soap till I was afraid his skin would ulcerate trying to get rid of the pink color. The stuff wasn't temporary anymore than it was carrot colored. At least everybody got a good laugh at club, watching my "fuschia sable" go through his paces... SS

Re: They are not GERMAN shepherds Your point, I believe, but a rose is a rose by any other name; not true? White, Blue, LIver they are GERMAN shepherds, just not what the Captain ordered. ;-) ~Deb
