Susie, my issue with 100% committing to everyone to keeping her forever is that I don't have kennels at the new place; ALL my dogs spend a portion of the day in the house with me. I have 3 separate fenced areas, but if she doesn't get along with my girls, or can't be with the Chihuahua, or the cat, etc., I would have to find her a home because she deserves to be front and center on the couch. I was hoping someone near her would step forward that we all "know" and trust. I am happy to be Plan B, but I don't want to mislead anyone and promise that I can keep her forever. I *know* I can manage her during whelp, get her whatever she needs (have a great vet nearby now- huge bonus!) and place those pups responsibly, but if there is a problem keeping her in the living room, I don't think it's fair to keep her crated or kenneled, so I would find her a pet home. If she can stay out the queen's way and not eat the tiny dog and cat, hey, the more the merrier :-)

I agree; I hate to see her whelp in rescue.

Tony (and anyone else) my email is in my user profile. I am easy to find. I am having some kind of compatibility issue with this site making it hard to post and sometimes load pages, so email works great.

I 100% understand, Jenny, that´s more than fair...

Jen beat me to it. I would make the drive to get her. Of course anyone wanting to split the drive with me would be great, but I'm always game for a roadtrip.

We're pretty crunched on time though, I wouldn't be able to go until after Thanksgiving morning. If I could talk my dad into tagging along we could take turns driving and that would help immensely. I'll start figuring out logistics.

Let the board know if there will be a GoFundMe, so I can contribute. About to be traveling soon myself.

23 hrs 12 mins for me to drive from Omaha to Stockton and then another 6 hours roughly added to that on the way back to get to Jen.

Dawulf, you want to do a Youcaring or Gofundme (I think Youcaring takes less) for the trip/payment? Makes more sense to get the money to you than me if you're the one who will pick her up. Then, if something falls through or she's not available, you can just return the money? Can you do that with those sites? I have no idea...

You guys are awesome. I have my own group of old girls here and of the several only a few have had 1 litter...then none at all and still need our care, but I'll send something. Poor dog!!

I live about an hour and a half from where this female is. I have friends that do rescue and also know of a couple people who do fostering.. I am TRYING to see if someone can take this female and whelp her litter and hopefully keep her. I too think it would be better for her to stay close and not have to travel

I am working right now and will log back on tonight to post more.

Latest musings have brought up these thoughts: Shipping may be easier on her than a long drive with a stranger. Probelm is, what if a vet sees her condition and won't issue the flight health cert? I doubt that would happen, but it's possible so I think a back-up plan is wise.

2nd, I have a volunteer breeder from Cali who says she will whelp the litter, spay her, and keep her. But, she is 450 miles away and while that's not super far, she is a caregiver for an elderly parent and cannot leave for that long. She will disclose her name to contributors so they don't think anything shady is going on, but she would prefer to remain anonymous on the forum. She is able to meet someone in Bakersfield if someone can pick the dog up from the owner.

Thanks, Jyl!

I would rather a breeder find homes for the pups - that way temperament can be assessed by someone experienced, homes can be vetted, and they can be alternatively altered prior to leaving or on contracts. There are wonderful rescues, but there are also some that I think would be harder on this girl than a breeders's home (HOME, not kennel) and the pups would fare better. Hopefully you can find someone competent to whelp the litter (lots can go wrong at her age!) and able to see them all through the pups going into homes.
