For the duration of the time I have been on this board I cannot recall anyone promoting or defending the ASL as a variety of GSD we should endeavor to own. Can those people say something on here?

They could but some people cannot be polite and let them like what they do so they don't open themselves up to the nasty comments of some posters.

I figured that was the case. Kind of sad that these people feel like they need to be " closet" GSD enthusiast.

There are many people who love their dogs but don't come here because what they like or want from their dog or what they do with their dogs is not approved by a handful.

We used to have some GOOD threads with many different ideas but not now.

Even trainers don't come here much because a few cannot discuss different ideas without getting nasty.

That is why we Admins spend time deleting comments and blocking the members that will not be polite.

We hope for some of those members do come back.

Hi, there! I think all of our strains of GSD have their strengths and weaknesses. So, be it ASL, GSL, GWL, or whites, you can find both good and bad traits.

I, personally, think the strengths of the ASL dogs, as a whole, are their beautiful toplines, shoulders, and movement. I don't think they can be beat in those departments!

I think you can't be a GSL for type or coat! They are just gorgeous dogs!!!!

And, I don't think you can beat a GWL for working ability and pure athleticism!

Lastly, some of the smartest GSDs I have ever seen have been whites!

So, I have always said on here that we should combine the lines to help balance. Yes, we will lose some of the extreme good quality and water it down but the German shepherd should be moderate in all work....jack of all trades!

I would rather have a moderate GSD that combined all the good traits and minimized the negative even if it means I sacrifice extreme amazingness in one area...I'll take very good in lots of areas!

Many ASL are the most active campaigners at show, herding..... just because they don't choose to post here does not mean they are "in the closet".

Sheesh mithuna seems your entire view of dogs is internet based.

vk easy now  he does I believe live in New York in a small city. Not many sheep for him to see.  So let the internet teach him what he can't see for himself.

Smiley I agree there is good in all the different styles of GSD and the blending of them can bring us back from the extremes.  I know it works as I have seen many litters that are good blends and have done some myself.  I don't use the whites to hard to keep clean lol

Western

I live in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC. The population of NYC combined boroughs is over 8 million. Is that a small city?

Small meaning no open land for sheep and cattle to roam and dogs to work not how many people are in it.
