Well, after 8 titles and 9 health clearances, I bred my bitch. I retained her puppy who is turning 6 months soon. We have been working in competitive obedience class and her heel is coming along with nice animation and attention; her figure eights are improving; she can do the long stay and long down in group; recall; and I haven't done the obedience stand because we have her first UKC Conformation show in 2 weeks so I have been doing the stack stand and asking our obedience trainer to go over her for exam.

We are in puppy agility and she can do the A frame, seesaw, tunnel, platform, tire jump (we walk through), dog walk, and 6 weave poles with channels (all lowered to puppy/small dog height to reduce stress). She LOVES agility!

We have been tracking and I renewed my membership with our tracking club. But, her dam is going to be 6 next month and I decided to get one more daughter from her so the search for a stud dog continues....

I found excellent homes for her last litter! We had the puppies live in our family room in the heart of the action! It made them very social but with 7 older puppies can get stinky! lol We took them on trail walks and I brought over both families and adults to socialize them. We also live in a quiet neighborhood so we went on "neighborhood pack walks" which the neighbors thoroughly enjoyed as they would go from house to house for attention! I started all the pups in obedience so that by the time they were picked up they had the basics. I also crate started them and sent them home with their individual crate and 2 training books. I had each puppy microchipped as well. I gave each puppy buyer incentives to get $150 back for passing a puppy class, $150 back for passing a CGC or SPOT class, and $200 for acquiring a AKC/UKC title. So far, 5 out of my 6 puppy buyers have earned the puppy class refund. My thought is that a well trained puppy will never end up in a kill shelter.

Ok, now that is out of the way so people don't spend time scrutinizing if I am an irresponsible breeder.......now onto the stud search!

I am looking for a stud within reasonable driving distance of Massachusetts (8 hours max each way) to breed my bitch too. I am a head person so he needs a pretty head! I just need to get that out there!! Of course, health is number one followed closely by temperament. All health clearances including good bite and DM clearance and no immediate history of seizures, gastric problems, allergies). Sound, balanced, stable IPO type temperament like my dam. No noise sensitivity. Multiple titles. Eager worker and a strong willingness to please handler. Versatile with good drive. I am looking for a build that leans towards working line but with enough angulation to show in conformation all-breed ring (tight hocks) but a beautiful mover---which is the hard one. Nice, show type coat as my bitch has more of a working line coat. Stud can be any bloodline as long as the first 4 dams, tail female line, in his pedigree are solid bitches who are healthy, balanced temperaments, good workers, have type, and are very good, consistent producers.

Any leads please? Thank you!!

Can you contact Carlos Rojas of Jagermeister in NJ? He is a well known breeder and WL competitor ( IPO)  in the NE.  Sherry Ralph of Von Rubin Kennel   in NY has a KVPV titled stud   Dolf v Brandevoort.

Thanks, Hundmutter!! I figured I would ask here first because sometimes the best dogs are hiding in the backyard of small, dedicated breeders that don't advertise heavily!!! I figured it was worth a shot......haha!!

I always wanted to ask you about the dog in your avatar. I love him/her!!!

Steve Hong ( who went to the WUSV in 2008 and won 12th place in tracking ) of Vom Hermes Kennel in NY breeds and titles his stock. He has titled a dog that went to the WUSV .... Merlin von Conneforde ( high placing at 2005 and 2006 WUSV ).

i just got a fantastic male. V, IPO2 and Bomb Dog.
Solid black. Not big, Small to Medium, super angulation, very agile. Absolutely super temperament and solid nerves. He's a real nice dog. Doesn't have anything other than Hips and Elbows done, so I have to do some more health testing on him.

Thanks Smiley - although he was not 'breedworthy' for a variety of reasons, I still enjoyed having his company.  He was Devat Adunamoir, aka 'Taz', and he died at the end of summer '15, aged 12.5 years. [Edited to add: I am having trouble making that link, but if you 'pedigree search' his name, he is in the dbase.]

I believe your "refund" idea is great ( guess I told you already), but now again:
5 out of 6 puppies joined a puppy class, they didn´t "vanish" in a backyard! Congrats!

Your idea is brilliant - the better socialised, the smaller th chance the new owners will give their dog away later on.

I guess the "money part" is important, but much more important is it to make people aware that they NEED to do something productive with their GSD. In case money helps - great!

You rock!
