I have noticed a well known WL breeder in Canada has started breeding their non titled females to titled male. The prices are still $2500 per pup.
I thought this was frowned upon and is the equivalent to backyard gsd breeding.

A title doesn't change a dog's genetics. Show dogs have titles.

It is harder to get titles on females, because they can't work when pregnant or when nursing young pups. So it makes sense to me to breed them when they are 2 or 3 years old (after hips and elbows are certified) then maybe worry about the titles later. You also wouldn't want to expose a pregnant female to maybe picking up diseases whe exposed to multiple other dogs at a trial.

Medically speaking, it's best to breed a female before age 5.

If the females aren't hip and elbow scored, yeah, I'd think backyard breeder, though.

More important than titles , is a breeder's knowledge of the qualities of their breeding stock and what they have been proven to produce, titled or not. That said, I would personally expect a proportionate discount on a pup from a " title discordant " litter , for lack of a better term.
Also , it is not harder to title a female than it is to title a male. Many females are worked while pregnant , some up to 6 weeks in whelp , and in some cases , it appears to make the birthing process easier as the female stays in top physical condition throughout her pregnancy.

Lastly , there always seems to be someone on here who just can't help interjecting an obnoxious comment bashing the showlines. Sad !

Apple, "working dogs" should have "titles", too, in case the breeder in question is interested in the chosen breed at all....
Sun, there is no physical reason why a female should not be trained and titled within the same timeframe as a male.

Most often females mentally grow up quicker than males..

I think that applies to our species too...Wink Smile

In my opinion, titles are not synonymous with quality. There are many dogs out there that have tons of titles with good scores, but are total crap genetically.
Titles *can* give you a general idea of how the dog is, but are not a necessity for me when selecting a dog.
If the breeder the OP is referencing is breeding health tested dogs that are genetically quality dogs, who cares if they are titled? To me, that is better than people breeding weak dogs that are titled.
$2500 is way more than what I would pay for a puppy, as I'm sure most on here would agree pups are a total crapshoot. But if they are selling quality pups out of quality dogs, whats the issue?

Well I do not think there is a WL good breeder that I have run across that would sell their pups for less than 2-2.5k- If you know any please send them my way.
Ran across 2 ads here this am where sellers have untitled not particularly outstanding genetics selling dogs breed or not- one has dog for sale bc needs money? Go figure. GSD Puppy mills.

I know of plenty of puppies sold for $1,200-$1,800 out of top quality lines. I didn't pay more than $1,800 for my Quardes von der Staatsmacht daughter or my dog that passed away, Bosco von der Drachenkehle. I got lucky as a teenager and bought a puppy from an accidental litter for $650, and she was a great sport type dog out of Angsbacken's Rosso.

Edit to add: ALL of these dogs came from titled parents, save the $650 puppy. Her parents were worked for fun, so I'm not sure if they had titles.
