Wolf, and all those that responded to that thread "To those who see fit..." The list of dogs that are someone's idea of a good way to spend their time is still growing. :o( I, as so many others find this website invaluable for research and information. I would love to see this website remain a tool of merit in finding valuable and sharing information. Thus this question is posed to all of you, how many of you would be willing to close this site to the public and make it a user paid site? Per year? Per month? How about a list of moderators that are the only ones authorized to add dogs, titles and pictures to the database? Would you like to see the discussion remain a free open list or close it too? I would like to present the results to Oli and see if this might be a fesible way to keep this site away from people that have a mental problem that only causes greif for all of us that are serious about our dogs. All the Best, Liz :o)

I disagree on closing this site to the public. That is not was Oli envisioned when he created the site. Would I be willing to pay? Yes, I would be willing to pay if that is what happens. I disagree with a list of moderators that are the only ones authorized to add dogs, titles and pictures to the database! What a nightmare. Perhaps a list of people that check the accuracy but that's it. I want the discussion to remain a free open list. As to your issue of keeping the mental problem off the list, good luck. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Yes, there a few that intentionally bait the list, but that is not so much their problem as much as those that respond. Thanks.

I am new to this site, And find it wonderful. The way it is so easy to use is fantastic. I grew up in a small family buisness breeding German Shepherds, and when my parents died I felt I was all alone. Because I found this site I have learned many things, and spoke to other people breeding well bred dogs as well. I tell everyone about this site, and to make it private in my opinion is a little selfish. I have read the posts about people saying stupid things. People like that are in every walk of life, and if you can not deal with that, then these stupid people are not the only one with a problem. But as Jman said if I had to pay for it I would. Respectfully, Carl Morgan

Because of the delicate nature of this site, (pedigree data), I would see it totally fit to have to provide you real name, address and phone number, along with pherhaps a credit card #, not to be charged, but to verify identity, ***IF*** SUBMITTING info into the database. This probably will stiop alot of it. Especially if the submissions are recorded and verified by a login. I would agree that forums and everyhting else should remain public. But, you can use credit cards without charging them. Just my 2 cents.

I think a poll about this period is a bit pushy...if the site OWNER wanted to ask these things I believe he would.I think it is disrespectful for a site visitor to even propose something like this without first clearing it with the site owner. It is a shame that some mindless fools have nothing better to do with theirs lives than to create dogs..but I beleive a lot of data will cease to be posted here if it goes to a system where you must log in with a CC etc.. I think if perhaps the submission process were changed somewhat to require a valid email address, and not one from "yahoo.com or hotmail.com" etc, then maybe it would weed out some of the butt heads..*shrug*..who knows. If the site owner would like help, I am sure many will happily donate their time and energy..I know I would, but I don;t think trying to start some kind of a "poll" is a way to do this..a private email to Oli might be better served. just my opinion.

Well said, Carl--I agree. On the other hand I am sure it is time-consuming for Oli to maintain--folks are having problems registering dogs, etc. Perhaps there could be a charge to register a dog, or advertise in the Marketplace, but not to read/use the database and chat. That way maybe Oli could hire some help for the site management if he needs it.

there is, for sure, a need of a control form on the data base entries, but I don't think closing it for public or even charging a registration fee is the way - the open and accesible way one can use it made this site the incredible source of information it is - any strict regulations or payment form would, I belive, reduce with, at least, half of it the information that gets here - it would be such a loss... and besides, I think the poor narrow minded that do this are soon going to get tired with it.

Thank you, I appreciate all your replies. I have been in contact with Oli, please don't assume I am being pushy at all, that's not the purpose of posing the question at all :o) Once a pedigree is "contaminated" such as Ursus vom Batu for example, without pushing into or overstepping the boundary with no moderators except for Oli, I don't feel comfortable changing something back to the way it's supposed to be. I suspect others feel the same way. I'm sure Oli is overwhelmed with the amount of work this site is becoming too and at one time had mentioned it may have to become a pay site not too far back. What I am trying to express mostly is the need for people who use this list as a research tool for it to maintain its integrity without people who have nothing better to do with their time corrupt a very good thing and Oli ultimately shut it down. Maybe I was a bit quick to jump the gun, but I want this list to be of the highest quality possible for all of us and remain that way. Liz ;o)

I, too, have used the site for research. I would be willing to pay for the use of it. Most of us catch the chat dribble from trolls, so the real issue is the pedigree database. The public should be free to submit information, but not change existing data. If a change to existing data became necessary, there should be a separate petition for it by the original submitter. I have not submitted a pedigree yet, so I do not know if there is a review-for-error check before the data is entered. Even if some dopes decide to fake a pedigree, at least the legitimate postings would have some protection from unauthorized changes. M**3

I believe that the site owner is considering long before this discussion the same question of making it a paid user site. I, for one, would be delighted to pay a membership fee to see the site continue and to make sure it is uncontaminated by the idiot/s who think it is funny to enter spurious information.
