Is it possible that Jasper has a dentition issue that may have accounted for his rating that was noted in the stand exam? I noticed he got an SG at the Regional show. Maybe a missing P1 or something?

by Julie Berry on 29 April 2007 - 00:04

GS Mom: that is a good question. Jasper has full and proper dentition. No chips or cracks in his teeth, and as you may imagine KKL1. Julie

Is there a site where the owners of these dogs are listed? The link Dog1 posted doesn't included that information. Thanks.

For those constantly questioning any judge's decision. Judges are humans, like us they put their pants on one leg at a time. They have likes and dislikes as to color, size, movement etc. Like those of us that went to public schools and were taught the same curriculum, some came out better educated than others, some barely passed. Unfortunately, there are no umpires or referees at dog shows or "lets go to the video tape for a replay". Many of us us lost. Heck, if you werent first, you were a loser. If you dont like Peters judging then dont enter any shows he is judging next. The show is over and everyone now has to wait for the WDA show in October to kibbitz about. Will I go? I doubt it, a thousand mile drive is just too far for me anymore. The rings are too small and the grounds used for the bitework to small. Why cant people find showgrounds that have better drainage? Besides, the purpose of multiple VA's is so that breeders have many good dogs to choose from, not just the winner. Keep in mind, once a dog has a VA title it always stays with them, VA dogs from several years ago can still produce quality animals and the title goes on the puppies pedigree for those that consider that important.

Here's a link to the sieger show site. There is a note that says more information will be added. http://www.webhund.com/2007ss/classes.htm The owners are not listed on any website as far as I know.

Trexshep brought up the WDA in October. Just my 2 cents worth. It would also be of great advantage to all exhibitors if the show site were close to a major international airport. I think this would greatly improve the ability of exhibitors to travel to/from the show especially in a country as large as the US. The best thing Purina Farms has going for it are the fantastic parking areas for easy access to the rings. But the rings were too small and with the inclement weather and not being allowed to lay down straw for the safety of man and beast, the site was not adequate. Understand also that our German Style sport of showing dogs left a poor impression back at the site (the lawn areas were essentially destroyed as a result of the percipitation). I hate being criticized after the event when some things can be forecasted in advance. Who needs it? Just find another good site with better prognosis of dry weather in October.

I forgot to add however, that I did like the fact that the WDA show site was on what one could best term "neutral territory". It is a beautiful facility but not geared toward this type of event. I doubt I was not the only person concerned about the safety of my dog's handler. He did not have the right shoes to run in the ring which was a slippery mess. But after everyone travelled the whole way, the dog passing his bitework, the time and finances involved in working up to this event, you are not about to withdraw the entry. The orangizers have of course received in writing from you the dog owner, that you are holding them free and harmless from any damages. Fortunately no accidents happened, to my knowledge. But what if??? Would that not have ruined the show? I for certain, would not have allowed any junior handler to exhibit in those rings in the working dog class.

Does anyone have any information about possible venues for the 2008 shows?

If 2/3 of the people whose dogs were entered in the show last weekend half of them would have collapse in the heat after 4 laps and there would might have only been one or two V-A's, a LOT less V's, and a lot more G's. Beautiful heeling gets you nowhere in the show ring. At LEAST 25% (I am being generous here) of the dogs, and I suspect 15% of the owners had never even seen a ring before, or maybe just once or twice. The good news is that a beautiful dog, well-trained, capable and trained well-enough to perform "pronounced" bite work in the Korung, can still place highly no matter how large, small, rich, poor, or unknown the dog, kennel-name or owner is, here AND in Germany. The judge is not aware of whether the dog arrives in an air-conditioned trailer with 9 other expensive dogs and a case of imported beer, pulled by a brand new Navigator, or in the back of an '89 Buick station wagon driven by a guy who puts the crate outside next to it in the hotel parking lot and sleeps with his dog after downing his last two cans of Bud. Phillip Eram's Dei Precision dogs, from Canada, are a fine example of a small, minimum-exposure (until now! :)kennel owner, that springs to mind, although I feel certain he did NOT sleep in the hotel parking lot. LOL Money can buy a lot, ignorance/inexperience can often be offset by significant investment, but sweat equity and intelligent, educated decisions can still pay off in spades. SS SS

Hi Sunshine! As I remember the ground in the working dog classes on Sunday wasn`t that bad, a lot more problems we had on Friday. We are used to a lot of rain, snow, and heat, and our dogs are, too. But if there is a chance to choose, I would decide for sun and 20' Celsius, and a much bigger ring!
