I am wondering also, why are they putting pics on the Database that are 15 to 20 years old. Why not register an American Dog of today with their pics?  It does not make sense, but then again, what do I know??

Regards!

Yvette I also wonder about those people who don't know a GSD when they see one. I thought they were a very popular, recognizable breed. I'm about ready to get my dog a shirt that says I am pure GSD! Quit asking. LOL

About 10 yrs ago I went to my 1st AKC show and about fell over when I saw the shepherd there. Not recognizable to me! Though I had just moved back from Germany. HA HA

Dawn, this site allows you to put up a 7 generation pedigree for your dog. If y ou go that far back, the pictures WILL be 15-20 years old!

For more recent photos, I suggest you go here: http://www.covy-tuckerhill.com/boys.html

Not all American breeders are blind to the American Shepherd's faults, fortunately, as this very interesting interview with Jimmy Moses shows: http://www.thedogplace.org/Handlers/Moses_Interview.htm

I just bought a Dallas grand-daughter, by the way, Dallas on her dam's side and Ursus on her sire's side. I'm very interested in seeing what she can do, both in terms of performance and in the showring.

4pack,  if you think the average Joe has trouble recognizing a GSD, pity the poor folks with a Malinois!

I was at the Pittsburg airport and saw a Mali bomb dog.  I complimented the handler on the nice dark pigment of his Mali.  He was shocked that I recognized the breed and thanked me for not calling his dog a shepherd mix.  Hee hee.

My husband is getting a Mali puppy and we've already got T-shirts on order... "No, my dog is NOT a mutt.  Malinois.  Not malomar - that's a cookie.  M-A-L-I-N-O-I-S"

Yvette :)

P.S.  Speaking of voting with your wallet, my husband and I are casting our vote - we've specifically requested a puppy that is NOT the most extreme nutcase in the litter, that is NOT the most dominant pup in the litter, that is NOT the biggest pup.

In the back water of West Virignia very few people have even heard of SchH, and so our dogs are ambassadors for the sport.  My GSD is very social, too friendly in fact, but I can take him anywhere.  Kids can pet him in the park.  When I tell people that he's training in SchH they can't believe that my dog is NOT vicious.

I'd rather lose some points in the trial with my "friendly" dog than have an uncontrollable beast that spoils the image of the sport.

SchHBabe, my husband is from Martinsburg. Are you near that city?

I love Wild and Wonder West Virginia, the state with the fewest number of reported major crimes.

I know a German Shepherd when I see one,  and I have German Show lines.

Sunsilver.. I owned am American Dog,  22 years ago. I know all about Jimmy Moses, and what he is all about. ( I am NOT impressed with him, or his dogs, or what he does.) Andrew Hunte comes to mind.

I am very happy with the German Showlines, and my dog has NO BANANA BACK, nor is he walking on his HOCKS.  He has good temperament, and structure.

Regards!

"Almost Heaven, West Virginia,

Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River..."

{Just to clarify, I KNEW Hundguy was being sarcastic about the dogs, but also thought he might have been pulling my leg a bit...sorry, I was posting pre-coffee, so brain wasn't in gear yet!}

I get the same thing 4pack. My girl has a (IMO) gorgeous thick plush coat and people constantly ask me if she is a GSD X COLLIE mix!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!! I think these people wouldn't know a GSD if it bit them on the a@#. Hmmmmm, maybe not a bad idea.
