This is the shape of things to come at future KC shows - give it 12 months and watch it happen.

Apparently, there has been some voices from SV judges in Germany feeling that they are not very keen on now judgng at UK KC runs shows...... just what the KC want - then in come the Alsations, and their judges...... no trouble, little worry about health checks being crammed down their throats, and they have their way - they will all be looking at the above very poor specimens as the norm - but it doesnt matter, because there will be a great new road for the GSD by then, one where we will be seen quite clearly to be health and temperament aware, and our dogs can prove themselves.....

I feel sure that this is why they have added the nonsense to the undertaking regarding judges being breifed before they judge by show commitees - no self respecting judge worth his or her salt is going to do that, and certainly not SV judges that jump through hoops to get their positions in the first place..... they KC know this, and have that move up their sleeve.       Mo.

mo,i,m a little confused here.IMO.there are not as many all rounders that like that type now,nor many alsatian people who are cc judges.surely they have to wait a no.of years before they get another cc appointment.obviously the kc can change all that but it looks mighty suspect and totally unjust.Carole S.

Thank you Archania, she looked like a different breed in that ring, as did her brother in SYD in the morning. They are out of Kaiser Vom Conbhairean x Blanik Frankie (Rangemore Arko Daughter) I considerd not taking her in the ring, but then though,. No ,I'm proud of her, Sod it....she's going in!

I dont know how many of them Carole, I can only hope that there are very few who appreciate dogs that look like the ones above, but they do have their fanciers - and I think we shall be very surprised who will be "appreciating" this type for a Ch judging appointment -
GSD enthusiasts need to not worry but keep vigilantly allowing the public to see and check out the correct type of GSD - and not be mixed up with this following, our shows need to be advertised for the public to come and see them, and appreciate the lengths that people go to in our breed to secure a FIT FOR PURPOSE dog -

Penny I disagree totally. This was a judge well known to like the extreme 'English' type, and therefore attracted a particularly 'English' entry.  This type have so few judges now who favour them that they are only seen at very few champ shows and the remaining few 'Alsatian' club shows.  What tickles me is that even the all rounders who are thought of as being in the 'English' camp have to judge correct dogs when they go abroad, such as Liz Cartledge who judged in Malta recently and did a 'Continental' GSD well in the group.  Have to say though that this 'continental' GSD was definitely not extreme and is representative of GSD's in many other countries.  Do not dismiss the good dogs in this country who will still be shown under all rounders who like the correct type, For example, I believe it was Stevie Hall who gave Nilo the ticket that gave him the breed record.

Doppledanger, just wot i thought.this type is now a very small minority and i would have thought that they would not have that many judges if the judges has to wait a year or so before they can be allocated another appointment.i thought that if 1 has a cc appointment at a show to judge both sexes, that they cannot judge again at cc level for another year or 2.i think it will be mostly wot i call middle of the road judges who get the ccs from the clubs that havent signed.so maybe Windsor,Bath,Bournemouth, Paignton,Leeds will get their gsd tickets back.we,ll just have to wait and see.Carole S.

Archania

Ok, im going to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons here i think...but i'm going to ask anyway.

I understood "Alsations" to be the nickname given by 'Breed show people' of a working type GSD.

Working dogs i know of, had a few TDex dogs running around when i was younger, but they didn't look like those !!

Those dogs above are not what i would class as working dogs, they're legs are too short - how are they supposed to do the long jump or a 6 foot scale ? They resemble mutated Daschunds !!

So what are they ?
In simple terms, do we have 3 classifications of GSD ?

A GSD for show ( Breed )
A GSD that isn't quite as pretty to look at, but works and does things like working trials, schuzund or police work or something similar. ( i know the breed dogs do sch too...this is just for simplicity )
And the 'Alsation' which looks fit for neither of the above ?.

The Alsatian "type" is pretty much what you see in the photos above... you've misunderstood.

They're not my "cup of tea", but they're someones beloved dog (I hope) so perhaps it's best to keep that in mind, when offering a "critique".

Totally agree, that these are somebodies babies and I wouldn't want to be hurtfull.........altho that consideration wasn't given to Crufts BOB Winner when being discussed and criticised publicly on TV.
But if the dogs exhibited at W&PBW show are the type of GSD the KC are saying are correct and is the way forward then God help us and the breed! Definitely not fit for purpose with short legs and very heavy overlong bodies, definitely not what I would call an example of a dog that could work all day!   but are the KC being critical of these dogs? NO!
