It won't affect his temperament or working drive. One of the finest males I ever had was a cryptorchid; who I later had fully neutered at 3yrs. It hasn't affected his drive one bit. He's still likes trying to drag decoys to the ground then off the field, lol.

Sometimes testicles do come down late though. The latest I've ever personally seen one descend was at 7mo. The latest I have heard of from reputable source was right at the 1yr mark. I wouldn't expect miraculous testicle appearances. In my experience, the majority of the time if they're not both down by 4mo, they probably won't descend.

If his testicle doesn't descent, I'd stil advocate neutering later in life, rather than earlier, to let his body mature. It's not likely not going to cause any harm up there for the first two or three years.

It doesn't affect the attitude of the dog in any way.  It will need to be removed in time.  I waited till after he reached full maturity so that he would have his full male characteristics.  Then we had him neutered which was more expensive then a regular neuter.  Probably about the price of a spay.  He has been one of the best dogs I have ever owned.
