Shatterhand the facts are they have boobs and boobs always win. Just ask my wife she gets what she wants, always and I am glad to get it for her.

Paul, the same is with me,i never won not even one battle never mind a war with my wife( and we had quite few)most about dogs.I love dogs and i would have 100 dogs if i could, she is realistic and very smart and always know what is right or wrong( can't say that about myself).I always traw the towel before she gets piss off.But i have to admitt that i like to tease her sometimes, after all we are together for 30 years ,so i must be doing something righ ??? otherwise she would dump me long time ago,and i am very lucky man to have her in my life, and i love her more than my dogs.I just wander how many people can put their spouses before their dogs?I assume not many. What you say Paul may be we start new tread "Spouses vs.dogs'' this might be interesting.

I think it's time for people to come to terms with the fact that Showlines and Working lines are effectively separate breeds at this point.

And to break it down even more, within working and show lines there are good dogs and crappers in about the same ratio. So owning either isn't a guarantee of having a great GSD no matter what the goal.

The showline and workingline people I know and train with agree and wish there were a more defined division between working and show. Neither have much good to say about the other. It cuts both ways.

Aed Ion, I would not argue with that position, you are probably correct. Multiple breeds with the same standard and name. The breeders of these dogs have been treating them as different breeds for so long this opinion is probably true.

A German breeder friend of mine who does not pay much attention to lines or strains in lines but rather pay most attention to quality of dog infront of her, gave me a a piece of advice " breeding isn't mathematics". I liked the advice and wanted to share it with you.

That really has nothing to do with what I said or is even up for debate.

People are just gonna have to accept that showlines and working lines have gone their seperate ways and there's no real impetus by either faction to rejoin the two types.  Look to the future.  Does anyone think in 20 years the two will have amalgamated back into a single "breed"?  Which is more likely to happen:  SL and WL breeders around the globe come together or the division between the two continues at an ever faster pace?  The division widens every day and with it so do the two separate breeds.

Why not? I didn't ask for a debate, was simply stating my opinion that neither working lines or show lines are  without faults and don't count on getting a great dog based only on a pedigree.

the division is not widening, the showline people are making more SL/WL crosses to try gain the credibility that the WL gives and still have big stupid pets. there is a public backlash to the show world and a shift away from the showlines so the crappy breeders are working overtime to blur the division.

in 20 years time the division will be even less and so will the average quality, it will be more  mediocre except for a few isolated hold outs that prolly won't even register their dogs as german shepherds.

as long as breeders don't have to prove the working traits of their dogs, things will go downhill.
