Blanik

I was advised by many, including Noddi not to go to this show but I wanted to go and see for myself and I had made plans to meet up with friends there. But I'm glad I went, it was a real eye opener for me. From arriving at the show we felt the atmosphere was somewhat tense. A friend and I carried 6 chairs over to the ring and I went off for my catalogue. When I got back someone had tried to take one of the chairs, My friend politely told her they where taken and was about to tell her there was plenty more outside when she got really stroppy with her..so not a great start. I gave my camera to a friend to take pictures of the class winners. (as we do at most shows)..we missed MPD and started wit PD. As soon as she'd taken it the owner came over and aggressively told her she didn't want people taking pictures of her dog and told her to delete it..which I then did. I felt a lot of people where so hostile, I don't think I've ever felt like that at a show in the 2o years that I've been exhibiting.
I agree that these are peoples pets and I sincerely hope they do love them as my heart went out to some of them on Saturday. (the dogs not the owners) Most seemed, edgy and nervous and I doubt I saw a single wagging tail!
A few backed off but one dog was clearly distressed as he was approached by the judge. He was crawling up his handlers legs and then bolted back to the end of the lead. The handler pulled him over and held him by his neck as the judge went over his body, her foot cleverly placed behind his back leg. (see picture) The poor dogs eyes where on stalk as he shook and shivered, he then moved around the ring like the wind was up his tail. But Still he was 2nd place in class of 7, so this judge didn't care about his temperament!
I found the owners/handlers to be generally harsh with their dogs. Pulling them into the stance by holding their heads at an upright angle and yanking them on cheese wire check chains. One owner was continuously slapping her bitch across the face, until she noticed she was being watched! Two sable dogs stood behind us kept pulling desperately towards our water bowls, but the owner just pulled them back...felt sorry for them too as they seemed so thirsty, but by this time I was too afraid to speak to anyone I didn't know! One handler shouted "Oi stand" so loud at the dog she was handling that I jumped, though I have to say the handler of the dog CC winner was an exception as she shared the moment with her dog...if you know what I mean.
Yeah I'm glad I went....and so glad my friend Claire had some Taboo in her flask!!!

Doppeldanger - Carole, I do hope you are both right.   I`m just not sure about the point of how many people follow this type of dogs because they seem to be very larger in their entries for that type of show than for the correct GSD show - but then perhaps thats because they dont have so many judges appreciating that type so they all go when there is one.

I really hope that the correct GSD shines through in the next couple of years to come, and Yes, I agree MissBeeb - these dogs are some-ones much loved pets, so perhaps we still must keep that in mind, because owning and loving a dog is more important than what it does in the show ring....... but we also have to keep in mind people buying dogs that have to be sure they are health checked throughout.    Mo

A total of 79 entries for this show (not 79 dogs/bitches as some dogs & bitches were entered in more than one class).

Interesting photo 3 (3rd YD, 2nd GD, 2nd PGD you would not believe how old his sire was when this dog was born, nor would you believe the sires hip score, who 3 months later was awarded his stud book number by the KC.

If you dont think that these dogs are correct to the breed standard, then wait the KC can soon change it - perhaps this is why the KC summonsed the undertaking signers.

The kennel club should be utterley ashamed of them selves allowing this dog to be bred from. Disgusting, the owners should also hang their heads in shame. I have just looked up the hip score of this sire and my mouth fell open.
And this is what the kennel club want to promote. Dear o deary me.

pacosbear.one of these exhibitors told me at a local open show that this was the type that i would have to be producing in the future in order to win/reg.with the kc.my words to her was ....OVER MY DEAD BODY.in my eyes most of these alsatian types are UGLY AND LOOK DEFORMED.Rhi,the lady yu are refering to(the male cc winner)i believe is Suzie Barnes, who i do know loves her animals. She is the owner of Ch.Linsdown Georgia, who i have stated on here before that i could live with.i would assume that all these owners DO LOVE THEIR DOGS,but they do expect them to behave impeccably in the ring.i have seen other handlers ,middle of the road mainly, but also germanic ones who have been harsh with their dogs.i just hope that some of these representatives from the signing clubs do not crumble under the kc umbrella at this coming meeting.i would say to them if the kc demands or further instructions are not for the BETTERMENT OF THE BREED and is just a furtherment to alsatianism is,GET THE HELL OUT AND DONT SIGN AGAIN IN OCTOBER.IF YU SIGN YU MIGHT FIND THAT YU,VE SIGNED FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR THE COMING YEAR 2010 TO 2011.remember they keep changing the goal post .one thought keeps coming back to me continuously and that is.........that after signing in OCT.they will shortly after send yu all a notification that they (kc)will be allocating all gsd judges for all champ.shows in the future starting from 2011.imagine folks OUR 2 DAY BEING JUDGED BY 2 ALSATIANIST.doesnt bear thinking about, but i do.BAD DREAM I HOPE BUT COULD BE A REALITY.Carole S.

Carole up to now I have agreed with most of your posts, but in the one above you now also seem to be suffering from the phenomenon of seeing things that are not there.  For once lets be positive and as the League are proposing to work with the KC we should all show them we are prepared to listen and see the problems they see.  The League statement puts it as plain as the nose on your face - there are problems that need addressing, this is not something the KC have dreamed up all by themselves.  Negative comments will only bring disharmony within the ranks, lets pull together and make something positive come out of this.  The League are doing this for the breed, the least we can do is support them.

I must ask about the British Seiger.

It was stated by the KC that only a club that had signed the agreement would run the British Seiger  -  so although the KC had sanctioned its running, it had put that stipulation on.     Mo.

Doppledanger.i wish i had your optimisum in regards to the kennel club and their intentions for our beloved breed but unfortunately I DONT.why then do they(kc)keep changing the goal posts.when they first announced the withdrawal of cc it was from 2012,in a later press release it had gone to 2011?????.do yu really think all this is about unsoundness/backlines coz i dont.ITS ALL ABOUT DOUBLE HANDLING AND US GERMANIC HOOLIGANS ,NOWT ELSE AND YES I CAN SEE THE KC SAYING THAT THEY WILL BE ALLOCATING JUSGES FOR ALL GSD CHAMP.SHOWS.i will be hoping the league can get through to the kc and will do all i can to acheive that but sorry i cant see the kc shifting on this at all.if they are so keen to be working with the breed why have they taken this stance.they were ignoring the partnership, gaily approached each breed club individually.why didnt they liase with the breed council.they dont want to discuss ONLY DICTATE,AND I FOR ONE DO NOT AGREE OR DEAL WITH BULLYS.Carole S.

The KC are a sleekit bunch about that there is no doubt they will move the goalposts when ever it suits them and the clubs that signed up to this undertaking will not be able to do anything about it as they signed there rights away by signing stating that the KC is god and they will abide by there rules because that is what they signed up for and the sooner these clubs realise this the better if for instance the KC bring in a rule that  all judges for GSD shows are from a list that they draw up then the signing clubs will have to abide with that or resind there signing but that will take time because another vote will be required which may or may not be accepted by the KC

Blanik:

I will first kindly ask that you please remove the pictures of my dogs as you do not have my permission to use them in this way and make misrepresentations of my dogs behavior, Please feel free use bad pictures taken by you of my dogs and other peoples dogs that you have taken photos of for your own personal use but do not use them on a public domain for abusive or slanderous discussions without my permission again. I can provide you with better photos of the dogs if you want or should I start an anti German post using pictures of your dogs to see how you like it. No I wouldn't do such a thing as I can accept that there are different types of shepherds in the UK so wouldn't dream of publicly slating your type of dog. we all have different interpretations of the breed standard as we by now all know, so learn to live with that.

Yes I can and do admit the dog placed 2nd was distressed and very hard to handle but his owners were late arriving at the show and only arrived as the class started, but he just didn’t want to be in the ring on Saturday he is not a shy or nervous dog and he did not back away from the Judge in fear or anything other than just not wanting to be shown in the ring and trying to get back to his owner, so did his best to fidget and be awkward and not show his teeth hence the pulling away, so please don’t make out that my dog was a quivering wreck as he has a sound temperament but sometimes plays up in the ring.  I have seen this behavior before with quite a few German bred dogs even at crufts this year and have even seen people change handlers mid judging because the judge hasn’t been able to get their hands on the dog as it has been playing up or not standing still, nothing to do with temperament. They all have bad days from time to time and sometimes refuse to co-operate…. I too was surprised by my 2nd place and if I had been judging would have not given the dog a placing, but I guess the Judge liked him enough and gave him a 2nd as he in her opinion, was better in construction etc than the other dogs.

You have used probably the worst shots from your camera to have a dig the judge and the type of shepherd she was placing that day.  For the record I do not class my dogs to be of an extreme English type and know for sure that my dogs can do a days work as I have dogs from my breeding worked in the Police and on working sheep & cattle farms. So it’s not beyond them to do what they were invented for.

Why is it that when Alsatians as you call them, as I still call my dogs GSD’s get placed at very few shows per calendar year you do nothing but slate our dogs and complain about the judging but you still hold the monopoly when it comes to the amount of shows & CC’s available to either type, and yet all you do is complain that your dogs are getting a rough time from the KC?  why is it then that I can only show and handle my dogs (which you all say the KC are pushing you towards) at probably 5 or 6 of the 30 plus shows this year due to the Judges preferences leaning towards the German Outline or European Judging Appointments / Holidays!!!

Quit complaining and try to enjoy your showing and remember it’s just a hobby!!!!!  If you can’t be graceful in not winning then save your entry money and stay at home, we all enter to win else we wouldn’t enter in the first place would we?
