The one and only time I judged all breeds I was presented with a pug.   On the table, I asked to see its teeth, the wrath of God came down on me from the owner  "We Dont Do That"  -  I near fell over my rosette !!!  However, it was a big show and well attended and I saw upwards of 6  pugs that day, and none of them would allow me to examine dentition.
Do we really need to near that mark?   That must have started with a dentition "problem" which ran rife through the breed due to indiscriminate judging and dogs with faults given top awards and used.... now.... where are we, these poor dogs must have a mouthful of teeth or be gummy bears and it matters not, because they dont show em to the judges, so they can be breeding prolificly with a sent of dentures cant they?  just to let them eat !!.
So.  Grossly overshot - health problems  -  grossly undershot  - health problems   -  it can all start from not taking notice of an issue like dentition.   Look farther than the mantle piece folks who think a missing tooth isnt important,    Mo.

The tooth has been broken off at the base and no longer shows - the Koerung proves that at the time of her Koerung the tooth was present and correct.  A broken tooth is not inherited and cannot be passed on to her progeny.  I am also very quick to penalise missing teeth as that is inherited and can be passed on and could as Penny said result in more missing teeth down the line.
