IMPRESSIONS OF THE KENNEL CLUB

Am I alone in thinking that a ‘response’ to the Kennel Club should tackle issues that are much more fundamental than what anyone thinks about ‘double handling’? To conduct the debate on the narrow terms of this questionnaire is in my view a grave mistake. The Kennel Club has its agenda but I see no good reason why their agenda should be our agenda.

peterlee: You are certainly NOT alone.

The GSD Partnership had an agenda, the "Planned Improvement Programme" (PIP) which they presented to the Kennel Club.

The Kennel Club found it difficult to argue with the PIP, and to avoid looking foolish, negative, and acting counter to their acclaimed agenda of "improving the health of Pedigreed dogs", what did the Kennel Club do?

They announced the "Suspension of our GSD CC's for 2012" and stated THREE problems the GSD fraternity must resolve to the satisfaction of the Kennel Club, Topline, excessive rear angulation & loose hocks, outside attraction.

And "hey presto!" - The GSD Partnership immediately DANCE to the Kennel Club's tune (AGENDA) - and the KC are off the hook.

Our GSD Partnership should simply refuse to allow the Kennel Club to change the agenda in such a blatant and unacceptable manner. They should "RISE TO THE CHALLENGE" - if they can?

Well, I hope other people see it the same way. It is a well intentioned thing to organise this meeting and I give the organisers credit for it. But to conduct the debate in the terms of this questionnaire is completely misguided. It misses the big picture. A 'response' is what the Kennel Club needs but that response is much bigger than outside attraction or exaggerated top lines.  It is whether the Kennel Club should be the proper body to determine the breed standard for the GSD and whether  their breeding requirements are the B all and end all for the the breed. I for one hope not and that this opportunity will not be missed.

If you conduct a debate upon terms dictated by your opponent then you have already lost. Please rethink this questionnaire.
