Mikey posts:       Mo`s posts

Anyway, who are you to comment on whether the SV would answer me? Surely that would be up to them wouldn't it?   Whoopsie Mikey - dont take life so seriously, I was only making an observation that I dont think the Sv (or any organisation doing a job of work with employees for that matter) would be allowed to answer to the anonymous poster.

Or are the SV as flawed as your Koerung event? (I'll save the VPG part for another thread!)
Sorry you didnt enjoy it - I`ll let you into a secret NEITHER DID I - now its some secret eh ! Cant speak for the SV here.
I tried to keep this nice but you seem to be getting angry with it. You can choose to answer the questions or not. Thats called freedom!   but as far as I can see I`m trying to answer your questions as they come - and I dont feel angry, have looked back at my posts and they dont sound angry ??

Oh, and on a previous post on this thread you state...'Will let you know, but it doesnt give me a great concern for the future'.... because I will -  (if I stop falling over) with the new future we are forming with our GSD`s  -   be required to do a courage test on various occasions with her

Am I right in thinking you are not concerned for the future regarding this event as your dog was awarded its title regardless of the flaws and so in fact you don't actually care? I know that the flaws as you call them didnt affect the quality of Dessie.  I am sorry to sound big headed but Dessie is a good quality girl, and I can find no glaring fault that would cause her not to get a Kkl.1. - no concern for the future was referring to my girls bitework.  Perhaps if I wanted to join BAGSD Team, then I would sorely struggle !!   -  but for us, as novices to all of this, believe it or not,  we have come a long way.   Mo

The Flaws appeared long before the event started, but I was committed then, and decided that for  the folk that had supported us and the event, that we would stick with it, and carry on.  We did. and some people gained their qualificiations that they set out to, and others didnt, overall it was OK - but would I do it differently next time...? Yes .   Flagship Event ?? wanted it to be.   Did we achieve such ???   Think not really  -  was I pleased with the overall week-end.   Some things were Great, some things were bloody annoying and some things were downright out of order.   But hey - this is the dog scene, not life and death, we all have a life and its worth living - there will be more Koerungs from this, and thats the important thing, and the more successful they are -  then we know we are winning !!!   Rome wasnt built in a day, and I had my soldiers that hung themselves out to dry before the event, I can tell you      Mo.

Well Penny.

I am glad you agreed the event was no way a Flagship event. Prehaps next time you try a UK first, you will think a bit more wisely on your choice of words on forums in the lead up to the event!

I have had a bit of a think about some of your responses on this thread which has led to a few more questions if I may.

You said I should ask the judge if he was happy with the way the measurements were taken......Do YOU think this would have been ok in Germany?

In the gun test - not one of the dogs should have passed in my opinion. All dogs showed a reaction to the gun shots which as per the rules would have meant a disqualification - yours included.

Also, I recall it was mentioned at the event that almost a begging session was needed to get the SV judge to commit to coming over to judge as he didn't see the point for 3 dogs!

Now, as for being anonymous, my name is Michael Mackenzie. If you had taken the time at your event to be a good host and mingle with the spectators when you had time, you would have met me personally. But you chose not to, instead floating around like some kind of hierachy screaming you were doing a Liebenzeit!.

Even the judges on the Saturday night were left to their own devices I hear! (hearsay - so I guess that info I was given could be wrong).

As for joining the BAGSD team...I'm sure you wouldn't find it too hard to gain the qualifications needed.! Its amazing what £500 can buy in respect to titles and awards when sending dogs abroad these days.

I shall contact the SV for clarification on rules etc. Lets hope they don't decide to anull the event and awards given!

Regards,

Mike.

Good greif Mikey what on earth are you on.

This was a FIRST. These events are not easy to organise at the best of times, but a first time, I certainley wouldn't put myself forward.  There will be lessoned learnt and it will probably take several events before the organisation of them runs smoothly.

I wasn't there so can't comment on actual events but Mo and her team took it on.

The UK has now had it's first koerung.

Thanks Jess,

Yes de-brief time was "interesting".   What we would have done and wouldn`t have done second time around.... suggestions and ideas flying..., and it was sooo different to a show, which is the only thing i have ever been part of organising.... much more fun though had it gone totally to plan.  There were four other factors, totally out of our control that didnt help the event along - so much as we can control and steer, we cant over-see everything.

Mikey - You must do what you wish to do re the SV , to satisfy yourself .,   If the SV see fit to disqualify from the Koreung or the Leibenzeit, then I can tell you that I will dust myself down and enter the next one.  She already has Breed Survey Class 1 and an excellent report, and your posts have probably just made all the people wondering if they should go for it next time, to be very aware of the fact that in the UK there are trouble mongers that are not entrants, just watcher, and listeners, and lurkers..... sad for you - just a hurdle for me to climb.

Judges were wined and dined every evening.   I couldnt attend every evening, but Zep did, I had my mother at home that week-end as she had just heard of the loss of lost her brother day before the Koerung, so she did well to get to the Koerung with me so I could get there.  I couldnt get her out to the Carvery every evening too - but we managed the last night - large party eating every nght I can assure you

So.  Summing up on this.   You are worried about the judge being not treated well, but felt he did a bad job,
you are convinced that the event wasnt worth doing, but you attended to watch,
you are obviously aware that people in the UK are gearing up to new beginnings and trying their best, but it wasnt good enough for you.
I have laid my chest bare (God Forbid I hear you all say)   so what dogs do you have, had you had, are you having or do you like  -   and what WAS good about the event?   Mo.

Could Mikey be looking for a job at the next one  ?   Maybe he wants to help with advice and practical stuff!

Hi Penny,

To be honest, this isn't actually about the event in general - in a hypocritical way, I applaud you for bringing the first Koerung into the UK.

My gripe is the fact that the Koerung was not conducted as per rules and regulations. You know full well too, yet you actively celebrate your dogs award.

Facts are:

A SOFT PUPPY SLEEVE WAS USED FOR THE BITEWORK (although this didn't appear to be the case for the VPG dogs)

A STEEL TAPE MEASURE WAS USED TO MEASURE DOGS GIVING AN INACCURATE READINGS.

UNEVEN GROUND WAS USED TO MEASURE THE DOGS GIVING INACCURATE READINGS.

ALL DOGS UNDER THE GUN TEST SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISQUALIFIED FOR THEIR REACTIONS TO IT.

Am I right or wrong on these points? Would this have been allowed if it was an event being held in Germany?

Regards,

Mike.

I was pleased about  my dogs awards,of course - and  because if anyone had told me two years ago, that I would take a dog into a ring - do heelwork - let alone off lead heelwork and then a little protection work, and apart from falling flat would do ok - then I would have never believed it.   I also have nothing to worry about on the validity of my dogs bitework,   Dessie and Dayna have both been trained in Germany for their titles, and I want to be able to say that we will do it ourselves in future, there will be stumbling blocks, and I am sure I will have dissappointments, and great days - that happened to be a great day for me.  I wouldnt dream of questioning the SV judge, but you are most welcome if you feel he wasnt able to measure with the tape he was given, he seemed to have no trouble - and incidentally, came up with the exact same measurement as her Breed Surveyer - before you ask the paperwork on that was not at the venue.

I would have loved to have gotten the venue ready for this Koerung -
Gazebo
Wooden plinth
pc at the ready
etc etc
this was ..... one of my four factors that went annoyingly wrong....

However, - again the judge measured and incidentally, was 1/2 cm out on the Breed Surveyer - and both measurements were  within normal limits

Gun Test - all three dogs - hyped up and ready to go barked at the gun shot.   No dog backed off - no dog continued to bark incessently - I am not sure whether the judge has any lee-way in this, I suspect that he would be looking at more to do with the dogs demeanour than noise.    If it were myself, I would be wanting to see that a dog was reacting the way they did than shying to the ground or growling lowly and crouching, or worse...   perhaps its time now Mikey for you to go off and do your worst - it will certainly be time for some reading this thread to be wondering why on earth the two sides of exhibiting and working are even trying to come together and learn from each other, after this.
The loser?   Yourself.           You have to live and be irritated by it,
Me? the other competitors?  We can go again if it wasnt deemed good enough for the people that matter and made the qualified decisions.    Mo.

So am I right or wrong?

And would this be allowed in Germany?

Mike.

It is better to be one of those that tries hard to get new things off the ground and learns along the way than be someone who stands on the sidelines and criticises!
