Finally, someone who understands the craziness with regard to the lack of wanting to pee! I'll take her for a walk with my other dogs. She will smell where they peed, and just move on like she is saying "thanks but no thanks"!

I would certainly appreciate references , since I am looking for a new vet now. My zip is 11789.

There is an vet about an hour away named Wen, that I just heard that people bring there dogs to him from all over the country.
Anyone hear of him?
Thanks!

Yes, Tomfmal, I "get it."    The only good thing about that bitch's refusal to go anywhere but her own yard is that it led to a judge (court, not doggie) writing a letter of reference for her to use with hotels!!   I actually did get to check into a motel with her once, when they had a no pet policy, because they were so impressed that a judge would write a letter of reference regarding her being totally housetrained!!

I assume that the zipcode you gave is on the East Coast.   Check with folks in the USA clubs in the New England region for vet references.

 Update -

Well, she is doing so so at this point. She is back to normal in the sense that she is always hungry, and she has plenty of energy. She was however having diarrhea with the hamburg and rice, so I needed to add pumpkin, which I still do.

She sometimes throws up right after eating and this concerns me. I'm not sure what is up with that. Any ideas?

I haven't read the whole post but how often are you feeding her?  Maybe you need to feed several small meals if she can't hold it all.  Just a suggestion.  I hope she gets better.  Have you taken her to a different vet yet?

Was she put on antibiotics after the surgery? If so, giving your girl a probiotic is a must- Prozyme or Nzyme are both good products. Even if she wasn't put on antibiotics, giving a probiotic is necessary unless she is on a raw diet, to aid in digestion. Is there a reason why you aren't giving her boiled chicken as opposed hamburger meat? Are you draining off the fat? I had a GSD who had a tennis ball removed (2 separate times) and he spent 6 days at the vet's office on an IV and when I brought him home, as per the vet's instructions, I fed him rice with either boiled chicken or scrambled eggs (with no oil or butter) for 4 or 5 days and then incorporated canned food. After that I eventually got him onto kibble. It was a slow process of getting him back to his regular diet. Now I don't feed any commercial food, but that's for another thread.

If things don't improve soon, I'd take her back to the vet....but a different one than who wrongly diagnosed her and did the surgery.

Best of luck to you and your girl.

Jade, Thanks for that link. I read that web site and have it bookmarked now. Good stuff.

 Char,
I am trying chicken too. She was on antibiotics for about 5 days after surgery. She is improving - I am feeding her 1/2 cup at a time and she is not vomiting that. She still is not drinking all that much - perhaps there is enough water in the rice mixture.

I do have another thread going about feeding and commercial food...................

Thanks

Glad to hear she's doing better. You can pick up Prozyme at pet superstores I believe.  By giving it to your girl, her digestive system will not have to work so hard at digesting the food, therefore she would definitely benefit from it. It has many other benefits too.

I hope she continues to improve.

Char
