IF YOU GO ONTO GENERAL TOPIC, AND READ A POST BY SOMEONE ELSE CALLED PANDA UPDATE, IT SHOWS A PICTURE OF A PANDA SHEPHERD BABY, THAT STRIKINGLY RESEMBLES A BORDER COLLIE.

I would absolutely admit if I ended up with a "panda" shepherd (since that's the term we are using here.) I certainly would not repeat the breeding. I would want people to know what lines I used together to end up with all that white. And yes I would have the pup humanely euthanized, immediately. I am not going to trust anyone to "wait" until the dog is old enough to be sterilized. I would also have a DNA test done. To me, there are just TOO MANY dogs that end up in the shelter.

Too many people use genetic faults to create "Rare Breeds" and that personally disgusts me. Not EVERYONE, but way too many. This comment is not an attack on ANYONE.

To each his own. This topic said "(what do you think)"  I posted what "I" think,

Many different breeds of dog contributed to the origins of the German Shepherd.  In the early days, there were wire-coated GSD's and blue merle GSD's. It would not surprise me at ALL to find the genes for the panda-type markings hidden in the Shepherd genepool.

There is more to genetics than just dominant and recessive genes. Genes can exchange bits and pieces with each other. Pieces can also get lost during division of the cells. If the piece of a chromosome that codes for the panda colouration is being turned off or suppresed by other genes on the chromosome, it would be possible for it to be switched 'on' when it attaches to another chromosome that lacks the suppressing gene(s).

Many breeds of dogs have markings similar to the panda. I think there were herding dogs ancestral to the GSD that have contributed to the gene pool.

The best known Panda, Frankie, has actually had genetic testing done, and they've pinpointed exactly which chromosome has the mutiation which caused the panda markings.

It would be interesting to see if the same mutation occured in Incavale's panda, but, unfortunately, this sort of testing is expensive.

euthanizing a puppy  based solely on it being born the wrong color is both inhuman and ignorant.

if the pup is healthy, just the wrong color, how much trouble would it be for the breeder to keep this pup till it is of age to be spayed? that way you know it can't produce puppies.  but the puppy still gets a chance at having a wonderful life.

Ok guys........THAT puppy is cute!
Shepherd, Border, Shilo, Shibu, Shnitzel....Schnoodle......WHATEVER!
Cute, cute,  cute........and actually....the dog "stacked"...is kinda handsome!
If they are a  genetic "mutant" of pure bred GSDs'.....we are looking at a whole different set of problems "creeping" into the gene pool.
As for "these" particular dogs in being "discusting"......come on...... they're just dogs.

There are literally THOUSANDS of unwanted German Shepherds in this country that are healthy, the proper pigment, temperament and conformation. Shelters and vet clinics euthanize these dogs daily...The fact is there are not enough homes for them all....I personally would not want to add to the problem.  And it is a problem.

I'm sure many people do keep the "panda" pups and spay/neuter them BUT do you not see my point about eventually becoming sought after as a "rare breed" ? People will start deliberately breeding these dogs. Maybe people already are, I don't know......of that YES I am ignorant. I have never researched them.

And maybe if I did end up with a pup like that, I would change my tune IF I thought I had the proper home for the pup, but for now I will stick to my original thoughts.

O.K. I've had a couple of bud's. You ask what I think so I tell you.

How incredibly stupid does one have to be to bring this shit to a GSD board.

I cannot even imagine. I have answered several questions placed by you, hamza.

You have even thanked me for my replies.

What does this incredible piece of shit have to do with the GSD.

Why do you display such incredible stupidy that you even bring this shit to a "serious" GSD board.

Anyway,

Just Rik's honest opinion,  and you can rest assured that Rik will eat shit and run rabbits before I give any future advice to your stupid shit.

Best from a slightly off kilter.
