Hello all-

I have been the parent of 2 GSDs in the past, with our last canine child dying recently of cancer after a wonderful life of 13 1/2 years.

We have always adopted from shelters and have always been fortunate to have fine dogs, but am now considering adopting through a reputable breeder.

I am seeking a German bloodline working dog, and would want to adopt a puppy, as I want to ensure the best socialization with our 2 year old cat (raised partially by our departed GSD) and 2 human children (ages 6 and 10).  I don't have all the lingo down on how to describe qualifications, ratings, etc, but am seeking a puppy whose family lineage and health history can go back 3+ generations and whose ancestors have been bred for intelligence, temperament, trainability, no hip problems, good health, etc, with probably medium drive.

Essentially, we would have our prospective canine child as a member of the family, to have a semi-active lifestyle, to definately train for obediance, and to possible train for Schutzhund.  Also, our past dog was able to be used as a semi-therapy dog, and I was able to train her to work well with people having agoraphobia and fear of dogs.  Ideally, I would like to have a dog whose temperament and eventual training would allow him or her to work well in public places without distraction or fear.

I appreciate any feedback you can give as to the most reputable breeders who may possess GSDs of this type.

Thanks much,

Steve

Hi Steve. I am a professional trainer north of Chicago, I train dozens of GSDs (good and bad!) a year from area breeders and I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction. Feel free to pm or email me, nothing makes me happier than a well placed gsd puppy and a buyer patronizing a truly responsible breeder, and I'm always willing to share tips on how to choose the right puppy. :)

 Steve,

I would contact Mike Diehl or Nate Harves in the Indianapolis area. They are both very ruputable, and have some great dogs.

Steve, the breeder of my pup lives south of Chicago. I think she still has 2 girls from her current litter born June 6th avaiable. Those pups definitely would fit your requirements.

Elkoor is correct. Due to insanely hectic unforseen circumstances and just general chaos, I have 2 girls available. Here are some pics:

Yes, Mike Diehl or Nate Harves have earned a great reputation They are top level trainers I think that in order
to be a good breeder you must know what is good and not, How can someone that does not train, understand what is needed to better improve the necessary traits. I myself will not buy a pup from someone that just claims the puppies
are top working bloodlines because the pedigree. I will buy a pup from someone that has earned his or her respect
by competing and being successful.
Mike Diehl and Nate Harves very reputable.  GOOD LUCK TO MIKE USA WORLD TEAM 2009
