 I agree, Desa still shows very good defense drive. Today I had a friend visiting and he walked straight to Desa's kennel in an attempt to intimidate her - no success. He even shouted at her with a very dominant voice and tried to touch her - again, no succes, at the age of nearly 14 months, with no protection training (just a single agitation session 2 months ago) Desa stood her ground and wanted to go for contact, everytime my friend tried to stretch his arm towards her she was going for it. Natural agression is definitely in the picture. Don't know what others may say.. but I think natural agression seems to be a rare phenomena lately....

@Dani81176

I am new to this forum and I am here with the hope of gaining some knowledge and perhaps some insight.

My question to you is how you would describe your dog's behaviour while out and about.  By that I mean when taking her for a walk or traveling in an automobile, or perhaps if she is left in an automobile alone and that sort of thing.  How does she regard and respond to strangers or towards friends of your?  Is she ever friendly or gregarious with people?  Does she seem to differentiate between adults and children or perhaps respond towards men and women differently?  I know she is still very young, but aside from her inclination to defend when challenged what is her demeanor under other circumstances.  Thanks for whatever you may be able to speak of with regards to her character in various conditions and differing circumstances.

Peace

 @ Steve Schuler
She seems to be very curious about everything that moves around her. On the buss or out on the street she is friendly if no sudden contact is being made. Up until recently she was quite wild and eager to jump on anything that moved but lately she seems to be calming down a bit, she responds quicker to my call when, for example, she sees a cat and wants to chase it and I call her to stop. I tested her by letting her stay on her own while some friends approached her (with me out of sight) and she wouldn't let them touch her, as soon as they stretched hands towards her she became defensive and pretty much "declared war". On the buss she keeps being curious about everything that moves. She doesn't quite like it on the buss because she has to stay (more or less) still, obviously I need to keep her still not to upset travellers.
Altogether, she is friendly and eager to play, I've seen that in her when going out to playgrounds where we meet with other dog owners.
No she does not seem to diferentiate between adults and children, that may be because I did not socialize her accordingly. She would do well with children, if I took the time to socialize her for that purpose, I am saying that, because I've noticed the teachable nature she has.
Well I hope this helps.. if I missed on anything let me know..

Yes.. I know what you mean. That was a one off, I don't let people tease my dogs like that. I think my friend was trying to impress his girlfriend (which obviously did not work out in the end). Then again, I don't mind when things like that hapen, it gives me the chance to see what the dog responds like. Botomline is she is very confident. (I don't speak English natively so please disregard mistakes)

@Dani81176

Thanks!  Yes, it is very difficult to gain a real understanding of dogs via the internet.  I live in a very small town in the farm country of Oklahoma USA and have no access to much in the way of German Shepherds except through the internet, so I am very thankful for that!  Still, it would be nice to be able to physically see and interact with different types of German Shepherds.  I am interested in all varieties of the breed, but at present I think I will probably be selecting my next dog from the DDR-Czech working type of dog.  I have had four GSD's in my life, currently a 7  year old male from German Showline.  A very nice dog in many respects, while he is confident (at least not nervy) I think he is lacking in protective instinct.  I'm doing what I can to educate and inform myself and sources such as this thread help very much.  Thanks for your input!  By the way, I have visited your website (ZIMBRIS) and forum, thanks for the English version as my Romanian is not so good!  Good luck with your dog and kennel!  By the way, your English is excellent as I was surprised to find that you live in Romania!

 Steve,
thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated. There are some good dogs in the states, you just need to gather info before deciding what to go for. Personally I would say you've made the right decision so far, to go for DDR-Czech blood. But again, don't rush into actually getting a pup before you learn more about bloodlines.
From a starting point I wanted my website and forum to be a place of resources, so I am glad you visited us online.
Just to add, we have had awesome dogs in Romania, especially in the 80's and 90's. There are still some amazing dogs around but they have military type of documents and not recognized by curent k9 bodies, unfortunatelly.
Well, keep asking questions and look for info, that is very good! The breed is not at its best at current imes, in my view.. so info is crucial.

These are recent database pics of progeny of Carly Policia-Slovakia. I just want to point out to those who chose to argue with me, that he seems to be producing all over the board in terms of Type, as I stated he would. I don't see prepotency or consistency here, but an equal influence of the dam.

by duke1965 on 15 August 2010 - 18:08

daryll , your  funny
which males  in history would you call prepotent or consistent producer , and I"ll dig you up a list of pictures like this from each and every one you mention

on the other hand , showing five similarlooking offspring from a male with 1000plus offspring doesnot prove anything as well

Ive seen carly work , and for his whole presentation at that , he would be a very interesting dog to use , with the right bitches

if you want consistensy in type from him , your best shot would be to breed him to a faro doughter or faro linebred female , with the looks of carly
but than again what do looks tell you about working qualities

I do not agree with Daryl on many of his opinions but if we want to be subjective he has a point here, at least I can speak about my girl in the first picture, in looks she has nothing from her Dad. That does not mean that I don't like her, on the contrary she is excellent and acts like a princess.
