Mark3  good post. For all vets to report numbers of epileptic cases would indeed be ideal. The owners could then be given the opportunity if they wished to take part in any research programs there are and could even post their pedigrees if they wanted to.    Simon.

Ther are two things here that is clear. First there is a problem. Second, in order to deal with the problem we have to establish the basis for pointing the finger at Apollo. Davey should be pressed for an answer on this point. Apollo has important breeding families behind him and should one of these be the transmission route for the disease then it is not just a UK problem but a worldwide one.

Davey Hall has done the right thing by removing Nasko from future matings but until the transmission route is discovered Nasko's own breeding family must be examined further. That is common sense.

This should not become a witch hunt in the search for the truth. If breeders as a whole have no cause to suspect the problem exists in a bloodline then they cannot be blamed if a problem arises. Upon discovery the problem then becomes "what happens next", will the breeder concerned be open with their findings? I would hope so because I would in the best interests of the breed.

Excellent post that bears repeating.

Just been reading mark3 post re Quadrill.
It took me back to the time when one of the(late) owners of litter sister to Quadrill told of the time they took litter-mates down south to a show then all the way up to Scotland to another show where Quadrill was fitting in the ring ,she said he was pulled out of the ring and a blanket thrown over him ,but then went on to take the cc on the day.
This person was big in the sixties as a judge/breeder .

This ^^^^ is horrible.

I must say this is the best thread I have read here to date.  Very informative and civil.

EPILEPSY?  -  WHAT EPILEPSY?

I am told that DH and DB are no  longer answering their mail or telephone.

That is no suprise as my previous post I quoted  HOPE IT GOES AWAY. I believe this is why no response has been made by the said people.

I think you are right.  Say nothing - problem solved.

There is another side to this coin and that is the KC.   If they pick up on this thread it is just the ammunition they need regarding the way the breed handles itself and, it will confirm the belief that the KC are best suited to  care for the interests of the breed.  For some time  there has been a great deal of discussion on other threads regarding the failings of the KC on the health issues front.  So  many people were angry and shouted about what should be done and what they would do.   Here is the first serious test concerning a major health issue and where are all these people now?  Not on this thread.  There is more  concern about C.C's and red cards than what this thread is about.

Mackenzie please stop making such sweeping statements as :-

"For some time there has been a great deal of discussion on other threads regarding the failings of the KC on the health issues front. ince you could say I am one of those people what is it precisely you want me to say here? To my knowledge neither DH or DB write on this messageboard and just because people dont come on here does not necessarily mean they are being quiet or doing nothing. I understand DH has been in contact with the Breed Clubs appointed KC Breed Health co-ordinator the dog in question has been withdrawn from stud, what more do you want/expect them to do exactly? Continuing to chat and witch hunt about it on this website resolves nothing. The relevant details have been passed to the relevant people for investigation, what more is there to say? Have you got a reply from the SV yet? Guess that will take time, like everything else takes time, meanwhile as dog is removed from stud and the whole world and his dog neither reads nor contributes to this messageboard then I really do not see what else can be done here at the moment until such time as more information surfaces or data proven.

Regards
Sue

I totally agree with you. Some people are honest enough to come forward on many issues they may have and others are not. Some people have the breed at heart and some use it as an ego trip. I think this may be the tip of the iceberg but I hope I am wrong. As it has been said before the owner of this particular animal should, in my opinion, come forward on this and clarify it to all. You would hope that the minimum the owners would take is to check with everyone that has used the animal, including pet owners, if any other cases exist.

I believe these people do read posts on this site and have congratulated people on site. It may not be DH but certainly Sam.

Sue B, exactly the point i was trying to make, this place is not the centre of the GSD universe. And Mackenzie if you are so well informed  you should have known about what SB has just written.
